There are many toppers in IAS and other exams but the fact of the matter is character.I remember when Krishnakumar became IAS all the Kerala newspapers celebrated because he then was the youngest to come out of IAS with a rank I suppose and where is he now?
A person could be an IAS or an ordinary farmer. The important issue is does he/she has character or is the person true to himself or herself.
One could betray others; that's easy. But betraying oneself is not.We betray our conscience all the while and never feel a vee bit ashamed of it because we are taught that making money and living a life of luxury is more important than having a character or keeping an identity.
Therefore a person such as Raju Narayana Swamy is something the present day Kerala can not just digest.Problem is not his, though. At least if he were a politician such as Antony(more clever than Mark Antony perhaps!) who could keep all the good name conferred thus far by the media and at the same time, remain powerful too.(Keeping the cake and eat it too!)
Not everyone could be good at that.
C P VIJAYAN
What ever we say about Sri Raju Narayanaswamy will not sufficewhen compared tothe services this young guy rendered to our nation.I cherish those moments as a senior police officer to work with this noble man while on duty at Idukky during the encroachments atcardomom hill reserve which was being demolished.
Though Mr.Achuthanandan then CM was supporting him during the begnningSwamy was releievd later entrusting the mission to Mr. Suresh a low profile IAS officer who was only a media hyped person. It is our fate thatnobody supports such noble persons whoappearonly once in many decades to correct the un-righteousness like Lord krishna Bon voyage to Swamy for bringing name to our country which is already tarnished and plundered by ourpresent day rulers..PCRamachandran nair.

What has been written by Mrs Jyothi Nair is correct in every detail. I am from Changanacherry. Let me write a few line on a similar incident.
When was a student in Trivandrum Medical College, Dr Thankavelu was the principal. He was a one in a million visionary doctor/administrator/pathologist. A very unique person and what alldevelopmenthas happened in the Trivandrum Medical College has been to a large extent his due to visionary planning.
Dr Thankavelu was forced out of Kerala, only to be snatched away by the WHO. Our loss was their gain, but being in the WHO, a part of his work would have affected us too in a good way.It is my humble opinion, let Mr Raju Narayana Swami prove his mettle in a larger-much larger field. Thousands of brilliant doctors, engineers and scientists have done great service to HUMANITY, because they left our small minded community (it is mostly the corruptpoliticiansand their cronies).
Though it is only natural to want to remain and serve one's own country and people, thisprivilegeisunfortunatelyfor private individuals only and not for those who are fettered by the yoke of corrupt politicians.
Look at Mr Kochousep of V GUARD, being a private individual with a back bone made of steel, the politicians could not break him.Let us all wish Mr Raju Narayanaswami all the best in life from now on

Subject: [www.keralites.net] Raju Narayanaswamy - A Brilliant School -Topper, IIT - Topper, and IAS -Topper, forced to leave IAS because he is honest, efficient and straight forward.Raju Narayanaswamy belongs to a Palghat Iyer family of Changanassery.
He has been a Brilliant School-Topper, IIT-Topper and IAS-Topper. However, he has been forced to leave IAS because he is honest, efficient and straight forward. Look at his Unique Credentials : First Rank in Secondary School Examination (Class X) First Rank in Pre University (Class XII) First Rank in All India IIT Entrance Examination (IIT JEE) First Rank in B Tech Computer Science at IIT-Madras First Rank in the All India GATE Examination for admission to PG Courses in Engineering First Rank in All India Civil Services Examination for IAS selection First Rank in IAS Training Institute On graduating from IIT-Madras,
Narayanaswamy was offered scholarship by the prestigious MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), for pursuing higher studies in US. This is apart from many offers with fat paypackets he received from foreign computer giants. How many youngsters these days have the will power to resist such tantalising offers ? He, being a middle class guy, wanted to serve the country to give something in return for the money the country spent for his education. He believed that this money came also from the poorest of the poor (who pay the excise duty when buying cloth, customs and excise duty and sales tax on diesel while travelling in public transport, and through numerous other indirect payments to the government). So he decided to join IAS, to serve the people, not for publicity. Narayanaswamy never looked at IAS as a money spinner, as his later life bears testimony. After a decade of meritorious service in IAS, Narayanaswamy has been forced out of the IAS profession.
Do you know why?
A real estate agent wanted to fill up a paddy field which is banned under law. An application came up before Narayanaswamy who was sub collector for an exemption from this rule for this plot of land. Upon visiting the site he found that the complaint from 60 poor families that they will face water logging due to the waste water from a nearby Government Medical College if this paddy field was filled up was correct. Narayanswamy came under intense political pressure but he did what was right - refused permission for filling up the paddy field. That was his first confrontation with politicians. Soon after Narayanaswamy's marriage, his father-in-law closed down a public road to build compound wall for his plot of land. People approached Narayanaswamy with complaint. When talking with his own father-in-law did not help, he removed the obstructing wall with police help. The result - Narayanaswamy's marriage broke up. As district Collector, he raided the house of a liquor baron who had defaulted Rupees 11 crores payment overdue to the government and Narayanaswamy carried out revenue recovery. A Minister directly telephoned and ordered him to return the forfeited articles to the the liquor baron.
Narayanswamy politely replied that it is difficult. The minister replied that Narayanaswamy will suffer. In his district it was a practice to collect crores of rupees for earthen bunds meant for poor farmers, but which were never constructed. A bill for rupees 8 crores came up before Narayanaswamy. He inspected the bund. He found it very weak and said that he will pass the bill after the rainy season to ensure that the bund served the purpose. As expected the earthen bund was too weak to stand the rain and it disappeared in the rain. But this created a lot of powerful enemies for him, for saving 8 crores of public money. The net result of all such unholy activities was that he was asked to go on leave by the government. Later such an illustrious officer was posted as "State Co-Ordinator, Quality Improvement Programme for Schools". This is what the politician will do to a honest officer with backbone - post him in the most powerless position to teach him a lesson. Since he found that nothing can be achieved for the people if he continued with the State Service he opted for central service in Delhi. But that too was denied on some technical ground. What will you do when you have the option for a brilliant technical career anywhere in the world you choose, supported by several advanced technical papers published in international journals to your credit? When you are powerless to do anything for the people, why should you waste your life as the Co-Ordinator for a Schools Programme? Mr. Narayanaswamy is leaving IAS and India and going to France to take up a United Nations assignment. The politicians can laugh thinking another obstacle has been removed. But it is the helpless people of India the loser, not Narayanaswamy. But you have the power to support capable and honest bureaucrats like Narayanaswamy, who have suffered a lot under self seeking politicians who rule us. You have even the power to replace such politicians with the kind of people dedicated to the country. The question is will you do the little you can do NOW? At least a vote or word in support of such personalities?
THINK AND ACT, GUYS...!!!Regards,
Mrs. Jyothi Nair
