Mohan Natarajan
Many Hindus including Brahmins eat Meat, Beef, Fish etc. some of the Hindus
in the Western World also eat Pork. I have also come across a Brahmin
who stated that he ate Scorpion and other Insects when he visited China.
Can you tell me why do Hindus have to eat Meat. I am told prior to the advent of Budhism
all the Brahmins used to consume Meat but after its advent some of the Brahmins
gave up Meat. Budhists who swear by Non-Violence eat Meat may be they don't kill
animals and birds because of their commitment to Non-Violence...

We have to kill to survive. Insecticides, pesticides, weedicides are all designed to kill living things so that we can thrive and so are all antibiotics.
Wild animals are decreasing in numbers and it is generally agreed that they should be protected. In contrast livestock are multiplying. In fact there is a theory that livestock have evolved to be food for us and so we take care of them and so they multiply. If we do not eat meat or drink milk or use eggs there will not be any chicken or livestock in a century or two. So maybe the livestock are playing a trick on us by being edible so that we would take care of them and so they would multiply at the expense of the wild animals.
There is also a finding that livestock emit more carbon dioxide and other green gases than all the automobiles in the world.
