[www.keralites.net] Khatte-mitten khabhrain from around the world for 23/2/13

Women spend 1 year in make-up.

Women spend 474 days of their lives applying make-up (in UK, that is…)

On average, women took 14.5 minutes on their weekday make-up routine, 24-minutes on a Saturday or Sunday.

The survey was commissioned by Harley Street beauty clinic Specialist Make-up services.

A tongue-in-cheek joke that is sure to gladden the hearts of my internet female pals who are all tired of hearing myriad MCP humour…

An alien walked into a shop and told the owner that he wanted to buy a train for research.

Alien: How much the one?

Shopkeeper: Well that one is a monkey brain and it's $20.

Alien: How much is that one?

Shopkeeper: Well that one is a female brain and its %100.

Alien: And how much that one?

Shopkeeper: That one is a male's brain and it is $500/

Alien: Why so expensive?

Shopkeeper: It has hardly been used!

(Me: Like, for instance, whose?  Like mine???)

Health news…

Why does metabolism slow as we grow older?

It's true that metabolism slows down as we age, contributing to weight gain.  But another contributing factor is lack of exercise as we grow older.  This causes a reduction in lean muscle mass.

This's bizarre!

Swedish hotel charging for 'homelessness experience'

A Swedish hotel is charging people to experience homelessness for the night.  The Faktum Hotel in Gothenburg offers customers the chance to see what is like sleeping on the streets of the city for around $10 (Rs.550) a night.  Profits from the experience go to a street publication sold by homeless people.

Heart-warming news of the day.

Premji takes philanthropy to new heights, donates Rs.12K crores to trust.

Wipro chairman Azim Premji on Friday transferred 12 per cent of the I-T giant's shares, valued at Rs.12,300 crores ($2.3 billion), to an endowment trust headed by him.

The foundation works in rural India in partnership with state governments to help improve the quality and equity of school education.

(Me: He deserves a standing ovation!  How one wishes the other fatcats in India, also followed suit!)

A letter-to-editor in Mumbai Mirror today…

"The regularity of the terror strikes all across the country debunks the tall claims of our political leaders about their readiness to tackle all kinds of threats.  The PM's assertion that the guilty will be punished is hilarious.  When the members of proscribed outfits are in custody and their crimes revealed, why can't they be shot dead point blank?  Why should there be the lampooning rigmarole of trial and defence leading up to the ludicrous mercy petition"

**

Only in India…

Accused hailed, victim nailed…

Friends would recall a story I had posted last week…  "Amrita Mohan, a college student, who led the hike rally, "The One Billion Rising campaign" and presented karate and kalaripayatu at the venue, had to deal with two men who abused her after the programme.  In tune with the OBR campaign, which urges women to 'Strike, dance and rise' against violence, she beat them up and filed a complaint with police"

Hear the latest news in the case…

Karate girl case: Kerala judge transferred.

In a clear warning to courts across the state against showing any leniency in offences against women, the Kerala HC transferred a magistrate who ordered registration of a case against Amrita Mohan, who manhandled eve-teasers.  The police had registered two cases against Amrita after the magistrate forwarded to them private complaints filed by the men, alleging that they had been beaten up by the girl who blocked their car.
(More often the law-enforcement agencies that include judges, too, go by the letter of the law, and rarely do they use their common sense let alone the spirit of the law)

[www.keralites.net] Are You An Explosive Personality Or The Implosive One?

Muhammad Amjad is a good friend of mine and I always spend quality time with him. Today, while we were discussing different personality traits from Anger Management perspective, he introduced me to the concept of Explosive and Implosive Personalities. So here is the summary of what we discussed:

If you belong to "Explosive Group of Angry People" then you tend to react on the spot when you don't like things, talks or an event whenever it happens. You don't hide your feelings and say whatever you feel about it. For example, at a ticket counter when someone breaks the queue, you speak loud about the violation that has happened. On the contrary, you belong to "Implosive Group of Angry People" when you keep your feelings within you. You feel that you can absorb the situation and you want to keep the situation peaceful. Artile written by Junaid.Tahir

Well, based on the above paragraph it will not be appropriate to conclude if Explosive Anger Reaction is better or Implosive Anger Reaction as both have their pros and cons. Below is the summary:

Explosive Anger Management: Since you don't keep things in heart instead you speak up so you are not building any stress inside you. So you are an open heart personality. Disadvantage is that if you have misjudged the situation and reacted all of a sudden, there is a chance that you will regret your statements and acts. Remember, words once spoken cannot be reverted. Because of your reactive personality, people prefer not to mingle with you as their respect is on stake while near you as they never know what will happen if you don't like anything at any point in time. Article written by Junaid.Tahir

Implosive Anger Management: The advantage is that you are creating a peaceful environment and avoiding any kind of brawl in your surroundings consequently people feel comfortable when you are around and they are easy to get along with you. The disadvantage is that by not speaking and reacting to the situations you are building stress inside you and impacting your peace of mind. Also, you are not playing your role in improving the situation and you are not adding any positive impact in your surroundings, society or family whichever applicable.

Overall, both approaches can be adopted at different type of situations. The optimum approach would be to keep yourself cool in all kind of circumstance. Whenever a situation triggers your anger, be logical, analytical and ethical in your response in such a way that you are contributing to improve the situation for yourself and for others as well. Article written by Junaid.Tahir

Small acts of kinds generate big ripples of happiness in the society.
If you have different opinions about Explosive and Implosive Anger Management, please do share.

[www.keralites.net] World’s First Personalized Mobile - Specially for kids and senior citizens

see the video here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=0jvRbFpNFro#!

In opposition to the smartphones that are becoming more and more sophisticated, a UK-based company has launched the OwnFone, a terminal whose only feature is to dial contacts programmed and stored in the cloud.

Even though the trend is to acquire hybrid devices that combine a large number of features, the new OwnFon is the "living proof" that it's a device created against the stream.

The phone introduced in Great Britain dazzles with its simplicity. It has the dimensions of a credit card and you can configure up to 12 contacts before ordering the device. You can choose up to 12 phone numbers to set as favorite dial contacts, each on a dedicated button. That's it.

The phone pictured above is as efficient as it is simple. It doesn't come with loads of features and this is OwnFone's ace up the sleeve. Being extremely compact, can be handled and used by owners at any age, mostly because it has very few buttons. It looks like the OwnFone was developed to help you call only the important persons in your life.

With a maximum of 12 contacts displayed on the device, it's worth knowing that OwnFone doesn't come with a standard keyboard or a screen of any kind. Even so, you can visually customize it before making the purchase, by choosing between several colors, styles and patterns.

As you probably guessed, we are talking about a cheap phone, created as an alternative to the terminals squeezing your wallet. Since it looks good you can use it as a back-up for your iPhone, or when you run out of battery. It's an interesting idea, but, for the time being, the OwnFone is available exclusively in UK for a mere £55.

If you decide to get your hands on the OwnFone, you can head to the company's official website and personalize a device that suits your needs. The phone has a printable case, similar to the way a DVD's face is printed, and allows you to choose from two, four, eight or twelve contacts layout, customizable with colors and patterns.

We could easily say that the British company have designed the perfect phone for the children and the elders. The OwnFone is also perfect to those who travel a lot, as a plan B device when your smartphone's battery died and there's no outlet nearby.

The OwnFone is only 7 mm thick, has the size of a credit card and weighs in only 40 grams. The integrated battery can keep the phone awake for up to three days.

OwnFone is available exclusively in Great Britan and Ireland, and the company that developed the phone also provides mobile network solutions. The device is available with one of the three plans with and has a price of £55.

Those who want to receive the calls from another phone number can redirect their calls to the OwnFone
