Swami Chinmayananda on Bhagwan Ramana Maharshi

Swami Chinmayananda (Balakrishna Menon), the founder of the Chinmaya Mission has beautifully written about what "Bhagwan Ramana Maharshi" means based on his own personal visit to him.

I was just emerging from high school, exams were over. On a package railway ticket I was roaming through South India. As the train steamed through the countryside at a halting speed, most of the passengers in my compartment suddenly peered through the windows in great excitement and bowed reverently to an elaborate temple beyond. Inquiring about it, I was told that it was the Tiruvannamalai Temple.

Thereafter, the talk of my fellow travellers turned to Ramana Maharshi. The word 'Maharshi' conjured up in my mind ancient forest retreats and superhuman beings of divine glow. Though I was at that time a convinced atheist, I was deeply drawn to visit the Maharshi's Ashram. I chose to take the next available train to Tiruvannamalai.

At the Ashram I was told that the Maharshi was in the hall and anybody was free to walk in and see him.
As I entered, I saw on the couch an elderly man, wearing but a loincloth, reclining against a round bolster. I sat down at the very foot of the couch. The Maharshi suddenly opened his eyes and looked straight into mine: I looked into his. A mere look, that was all. I felt that the Maharshi was, in that split moment, looking deep into me – and I was sure that he saw all my shallowness, confusions, faithlessness, imperfections, and fears.

I cannot explain what happened in that one split moment. I felt opened, cleaned, healed, and emptied!
A whirl of confusions: my atheism dropping away, but scepticism flooding into question, wonder, and search. My reason gave me strength and I said to myself, 'It is all mesmerism, my own foolishness.' Thus assuring myself, I got up and walked away.

But the boy who left the hall was not the boy who had gone in some ten minutes before. After my college days, my political work, and after my years of stay at Uttarkashi at the feet of my master, Tapovanam I knew that what I gained on the Ganges banks was that which had been given to me years before by the saint of Tiruvannamalai on that hot summer day – by a mere look.

During the course of a talk in 1982 the Swami said:

Sri Ramana is not a theme for discussion; he is an experience; he is a state of consciousness. Sri Ramana was the highest reality and the cream of all scriptures in the world. He was there for all to see how a Master can live in perfect detachment. Though in the mortal form, he lived as the beauty and purity of the Infinite.

The Truth Behind Misleading Phone Charging Myths

I think it's a pretty good bet that the two scariest words for any cell phone user are "low battery". Apart from getting it wet, getting a low power warning is the worst thing that can happen to your smartphone, and most of us are constantly aware of how our battery is doing and if it needs to be charged.

There are many misleading myths that evolved over time about charging your phone, and most of them are completely wrong. These myths are not only false but can actually do more harm than good, and reduce the total life span of your battery. So for those of us who want to keep our phone battery charged as long as possible, these are the myths you should avoid:
1. False: Off-brand chargers destroy batteries
smartphone-charger-myths
True: While not optimal, off-brand chargers are still fine for recharging your phone and will not have a significant influence on your battery's lifespan. What you should be avoiding are real-brand imitations. Charging your phone with one of these will barely get the job done, reduce your battery's maximum charge and endanger its ability to function.
2. False: Don't use your phone while it charges
smartphone-charger-myths
True: Using the phone while it's plugged into the charger will not decrease the effectiveness of the charge. The origin of this myth is linked to cases in which people used low-quality knockoffs. When using a sketchy charger all sorts of bad things can happen to your phone, but as mentioned before you don't want to be using them anyway. If you're using the manufacturer approved charger and battery, you should be fine using it anytime you want. However, if you find your phone is overheating to the point you can't use it, it's time to take it to the technician.
3. False: Charging your phone overnight dam
smartphone-charger-myths
True: Our phones today are smarter than they used to be, when in full capacity they automatically know they should stop charging. However, that doesn't mean you should have your phone plugged into the charger all the time. The optimal time to charge your phone in order to keep the battery going for as long as possible is between 40% and 80%.
4. False: Never turn off your phone
smartphone-charger-myths
True: This myth is a total lie, just because your phone is a machine doesn't mean it's bad for it to take a few breaks. In fact, Apple experts recommend to turn off your phone once in a while in order to maximize battery life. At the very least it's recommended that you turn off your phone once a week for a few hours.

5. False: Don't charge your battery until it's completely empty
smartphone-charger-myths
True: This myth was true in past generations of smartphones and rechargeable electronic devices, but today it's completely wrong. Most modern phones use lithium-ion batteries and if you constantly let them drain to 0%, they become unstable. It is much better to charge your phone every day when it's between 40% and 80% power.
6. False: Always charge a new phone before using it
smartphone-charger-myths
True: Almost every new phone comes with instructions to fully charge it before you start using it but it's mostly unnecessary. Since most modern batteries are best stored at about 40%, almost every manufacturer sends their phones out with at least half a charge. This means that if you buy a new phone and it does not have a 40% charge when you turn it on, its most likely because the battery is very old. If this is the case, you should ask for a different one as it will likely last you longer than one that has either been used before, or has been sitting idle for a really long time with no use.
7. False: You can always use rechargeable batteries
smartphone-charger-myths
True: This one is a bit more misleading than false, but it's still important to know that most batteries do have a limited lifespan of full discharge cycles. Each cycle starts when your device has used 100% of its capacity. This means that if you charge your phone today from 50% to full and do the same tomorrow, that's a full discharge cycle. Once you go above the number of full cycles your battery is capable of it will start to lose its capacity to store power.
So yes, you can keep on using your battery for a very long time, but once the official "lifespan" is over, you'll have to be very mindful of how you use it. Hopefully, it will only happen once, when you want to upgrade your device.
Bonus fact: Heat will ruin your battery
As a general rule heat and technology don't go hand-in-hand. Lithium-ion batteries get hotter when they are being charged. Now while it's also a really bad idea to put your phone in the fridge, you should always be mindful of where you place your phone, especially when charging it. Never charge it under direct sunlight or next to other hot electronics like a laptop or a working oven. This may not only damage your battery but also the phone itself.

Mango - Natural Ripening Vs Chemical Ripening
Most of us prefer to eat mangoes because they are the sweetest mangoes in the whole lot. They are grown organically so they are tasty and healthy as well as expensive.
With people becoming more and more health conscious, the demand for mangoes is increasing with each year and so is the adulteration in the market.
Yellow ripe mangoes attract you to them, but before you buy the whole box of mangoes wait and have a careful look at those mangoes. You never know they can be the ones which are chemically treated. It has been found that the mangoes can be artificially ripened using certain chemicals. The main chemical used to speed up the ripening process is calcium carbide.. It is a chemical that is used to produce wielding gas, which is very harmful if consumed. This chemical has been banned under the prevention of food adulteration act and rules. So beware or else you may land up in hospital.
Let us see how we can differentiate between artificially ripened and naturally ripened mangoes
Remember the terrific attractive aroma of a ripe mango? A naturally ripened mango will have a great aroma whereas artificially ripened mango will not have any aroma, in fact it wil lsmell like garlic.
The ripe yellow fine looking mangoes at the fruit vendor are sure to compel you to buy but those handsome looking mangoes are artificially ripened. Naturally ripened mangoes will have uneven green and yellow patches all over it.
These artificially ripened mangoes look finely ripe from outside but the flesh will not be ripe whereas a naturally ripened mango will be uniformly ripe and will have sweet taste all over.
A naturally ripe mango will be juicy but a chemically treated mango won't be juicy and it will be hard.
It has been found that most of the mangoes in the market are chemically treated than naturally ripened.
Naturally Riped Mangoes
Organic mangoes, once ripe and ready, are the most luscious fruit you can bite into.
How to distinguish between organic and chemical treated mangoes ? please watch this video....
