ചുംബിക്കാന്‍ തുടങ്ങിയ അപരിചിതന്‍ തന്നെ ബന്ധിച്ച അദൃശ്യമായ ആകര്‍ഷണവലയം പൊട്ടിച്ച് നഗരത്തിന്റെ ഇരുളിലേക്കും തിരക്കിലേക്കും മാഞ്ഞുപോയി. ചുംബനം സ്വീകരിക്കാന്‍ ഒരുങ്ങിയ ചുണ്ടുകളുടെ മോഹഭംഗങ്ങളുമായി ഒരു ജീവിതകാലം മുഴുവന്‍ മല്ലിടുന്ന കുടുംബിനിയായ കവയിത്രിയുടെ കഥയില്‍ തുടങ്ങുന്നു 2013ലെ നൊബേല്‍ ജേതാവായ കനേഡിയന്‍ ചെറുകഥാകൃത്ത് ആലിസ് മണ്‍റോയുടെ പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട ജീവിതം [Dear Life] എന്ന ചെറുകഥാസമാഹാരം. അമ്പതുകളില്‍ ജീവിക്കുന്ന, എഴുത്തുകാരിയാകാന്‍ കൊതിക്കുന്ന, ഒരു സ്ത്രീയുടെ ചിതറിക്കിടക്കുന്ന ചിന്തകളും അവള്‍ക്കുപോലും മനസ്സിലാകാത്ത തൃഷ്ണകളും രേഖപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു ഈ കഥ.

 

 

ഒരുപക്ഷേ, ആലിസ് മണ്‍റോ എഴുതിത്തുടങ്ങിയ കാലത്ത് ഒരു എഴുത്തുകാരിയുടെ ജീവിതത്തെപ്പറ്റി സമൂഹത്തില്‍ നിലനിന്നിരുന്ന നിര്‍വചനങ്ങളും എഴുത്ത് ഗൗരവമായി കാണുന്ന ഒരു സ്ത്രീ അനുഭവിക്കേണ്ടി വന്നിരുന്ന സംഘര്‍ഷങ്ങളും അനാവരണംചെയ്യാന്‍ ശ്രമിക്കുകകൂടിയാണീ കഥ. റോബര്‍ട്ട് ലോവെലും ജോണ്‍ ബെറിമാനുംപോലെയുള്ള സമകാലീന പുരുഷ എഴുത്തുകാര്‍ അവരുടെ വ്യക്തിജീവിതത്തിലെ അരാജകത്വങ്ങള്‍ എഴുത്തിലൂടെ കൊണ്ടാടിയപ്പോള്‍, സില്‍വിയ പ്ലാത്ത് എന്ന എഴുത്തുകാരിയെ കവിത മാനസികവിഭ്രാന്തിയിലും ആത്മഹത്യയിലും കൊണ്ടെത്തിച്ചു. എഴുത്ത് നിര്‍ത്തിയാലോ എന്നാലോചിക്കുന്ന മണ്‍റോയുടെ കഥാനായിക എപ്പോഴോ തിരിച്ചറിയുന്നു, എഴുത്തിലൂടെമാത്രമേ തനിക്കുതന്നെ തന്നെ കണ്ടെത്താന്‍ കഴിയൂ എന്ന്. കനേഡിയന്‍ ഭൂപടവുമായി, ഒരുപക്ഷേ, ആ രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ ഭൂമിശാസ്ത്രവും തദ്ദേശ ചരിത്രങ്ങളുമായി ഇഴചേര്‍ന്നു കിടക്കുന്നു മണ്‍റോയുടെ കഥകള്‍. കഥാതന്തുക്കള്‍ ആത്മകഥാപരമല്ലെങ്കിലും വൈകാരികമായി അവ എല്ലാം ആത്മകഥനങ്ങള്‍തന്നെയാണെന്നു പറയുന്നു എഴുത്തുകാരി.

 

എല്ലാ കഥകളിലും ഒളിഞ്ഞും തെളിഞ്ഞും മിന്നുന്ന ആത്മകഥകളുണ്ടെന്നും, എല്ലാ ആത്മകഥകളും ഒരര്‍ഥത്തില്‍ കഥകള്‍തന്നെയെന്നും ശക്തമായി ഓര്‍മപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു ഈ പ്രസ്താവന. അവരുടെ പല കഥകളും പെണ്‍ജീവിതങ്ങളിലെ വിപരീതവ്യവഹാരങ്ങളെ ആലേഖനംചെയ്തുകൊണ്ട് പല സാമൂഹിക മൂല്യസംഹിതകളുടെയും പിറകിലെ അദൃശ്യമായ പുരുഷ ഉടമ്പടികള്‍ തുറന്നുകാണിക്കുന്നു. ഇതുകൊണ്ടാകാം അവര്‍ ലോകമെമ്പാടുമുള്ള സ്ത്രീകളുടെ പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട എഴുത്തുകാരിയായി മാറിയത്. പെണ്‍കിടാങ്ങളുടെയും സ്ത്രീകളുടെയും ജീവിതങ്ങള്‍ എന്ന ചെറുകഥാസമാഹാരത്തിലെ കേന്ദ്രകഥാപാത്രമായ പെണ്‍കുട്ടിയെ അവര്‍ ഇങ്ങനെ വര്‍ണിക്കുന്നു: ""പ്രണയംകൊണ്ട് അട്ടിമറിക്കപ്പെട്ടവളായിരുന്നു അവള്‍, എല്ലാ സ്ത്രീകളെയുംപോലെ"".

 

പ്രായത്തിനും അനുഭവജ്ഞാനത്തിനും അതീതമായ പെണ്‍കാലങ്ങള്‍ അവരുടെ കഥകളിലെ പ്രത്യേകതയാണ്. സദാ പൂക്കുകയും തളിര്‍ക്കുകയും വിപരീതദിശകളില്‍ ഒഴുകി അമ്പരപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്ന സ്ത്രീഭാവനകളെയും, വാര്‍പ്പ് മാതൃകകളെ തച്ചുടച്ച് മുന്നിലേക്കുവരുന്ന പുത്തന്‍ പെണ്‍യാഥാര്‍ഥ്യങ്ങളും ഈ കഥകള്‍ക്ക് തീര്‍ച്ചയായും ഒരു ഫെമിനിസ്റ്റ് ടച്ച് കൊടുക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. ചെക്കോവിന്റെ കഥകള്‍ ഏറെ ഇഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട ഈ എഴുത്തുകാരി പില്‍ക്കാലത്ത് കനേഡിയന്‍ ചെക്കോവ് എന്നറിയപ്പെട്ടു. സാധാരണതയെ കാല്‍പ്പനികതയുടെ മൂശയിലിട്ട് അതിഭാവുകത്വം തുളുമ്പുന്ന അനുഭവങ്ങളാക്കി മാറ്റാനുള്ള സ്ത്രീയുടെ കഴിവ് എന്നും ഈ എഴുത്തുകാരിയുടെ മുഖ്യ പ്രമേയമായിരുന്നു. ഡിയര്‍ ലൈഫ് എന്ന കഥാസമാഹാരത്തിലും ഈ പ്രവണത കാണാന്‍ സാധിക്കുന്നു. അതേസമയംതന്നെ അമ്പരപ്പിക്കുന്ന ലാളിത്യവും സത്യസന്ധതയും ഈ കഥകള്‍ കാഴ്ചവയ്ക്കുന്നു എന്നുള്ളതാണ് മറ്റൊരു പ്രത്യേകത.

 

 

പെട്ടെന്ന് വായിച്ചുപോകാവുന്ന കൃതികളല്ല ഇവയൊന്നുംതന്നെ. ഓരോ കഥയും നമ്മുടെ മനസ്സിന്റെ ആഴങ്ങളിലേക്ക് ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെല്ലുമ്പോള്‍ അവ നുരയാനും പതയാനും ചിന്തയുടെ ഏതോ തീരങ്ങളില്‍ ചെന്നടിയാനുമുള്ള സമയം ആവശ്യപ്പെടുന്നതായി തോന്നാം.

A well-known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a Rupee 500 note. In the room of 200,
He asked, "Who would like this Rupee 500 note?"

Hands started going up.

He said, "I am going to give this note to one of youbut first let me do this."

He proceeded to crumple the note up.

He then asked, "Who still wants it?"

Still the hands were up in the air.

"Well," he replied, "What if I do this?"

And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, now all crumpled and dirty.

"Now who still wants it?"

Still the hands went into the air.

"My friends, you have all learned a very valuable lesson.

No matter what I did to the money.

You still wanted it because it did notdecrease in value. It was still worth Rupee 500/-.

Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We feel as though we are worthless.

But no matter what has happened or what will happen.

Never lose your value.

You are special. Don't ever forget it! Never let yesterday's disappointments overshadow tomorrow's dreams.
