assaging the foot to alleviate headaches!

Do you want to relieve your headache in a matter of minutes? Try the ancient technique of foot massage, and feel the pain drain away.

Reflexology is a simple technique performed on the feet. It is based on the belief that all major organs and nerves are connected to our feet, and by pressing in the right way on the right place, various places in our body can be cured from pain.

First, massaging the solar plexus is designed to relax the foot and the overall tension. This action is performed by pressing the thumb or the point of fisted hand to the center of the foot (the solar plexus arae). Gently rub for several minutes. You can also rotate the foot gentle to relax the tension in the achilles tendon.

How do you press with the thumb?

Simply press on the point and keep the thumb on it. You should use gentle pressure at first. If your thumb is a bit weak, you can use the end of a pen (not the writing tip of course) or one of the specilized relexology tools (see below).

Advanced techniques require moving the thumb in a small half circle, 'walking' the thumb along different points like little steps, or just rubbing up and down, again using the thumb.

How will you be sure you found the right spot?

Usually the point of pressure will be soft, and you will feel a light sensation of being pricked. The right spot may turn a bit red, white or a little bloated, and sometimes will go numb. The right pressure is up to the point where you feel uncomfortable, but not unbearably so, and not enough to cause any damage to the skin if you are using a pen/tool.

Point location

Headache caused by tension and stress - The best thing to do at first is to take a hot bath and breath deeply. Afterwards, you will need to put pressure on the inner area of the big toe, the fleshy part in the middle of it. Lastly, you'll need to put pressure on the root of the big toe.

Sinuses - The fleshy part of all the toes and the outer edges of the big toe.

Headache caused by stressing the eyes - Press and rub the root of the the second and third toes.

Headache caused by tension in the neck and shoulders - Press teh tip of the foot under the small toe, and the other end underneath the big toe.

Tip:
Be well hydrated to quicken the healing process and help the body get rid of accumulated toxins released by the massage. The electrolytes in the water will also help the sending of nerve conduction in the body at the same time.

The process of developing healthy bones begins at birth. However,

it is important that a healthy, bone-friendly diet programme is

maintained all throughout the life. This becomes particularly important

after about 30 years of age.

You of course have the option of going for calcium supplements (but

do consult a doctor before you do that), you can also try some

calcium-rich foods to make up for the deficiency of calcium and keeping

the bones healthy. Below, we discuss five super foods which can help you boost your bone density at any age:

Milk

Without a shadow of doubt, milk is the best (and readily available)

source of calcium required for proper bone growth. According to the

National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), low

fat or fat-free milk is the best choice as it has high calcium content

without the added fat and this facilitates easy absorption of calcium

by the body. And it's not just calcium. Milk is also rich

in nutrients like potassium, magnesium, riboflavin, phosphorus and

Vitamins D, A and B12, all of which are important for healthy bones.

Orange Juice

Oranges are packed

with essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals and calcium. They are

a must-have for healthy bone growth. They can be especially used by

individuals who have intolerance to lactose and cannot obtain their

daily calcium requirements from dairy products. So next time you help

yourself with a serving of fruits, make sure you have enough oranges in

that.

Dairy Products

Many experts

have designated dairy products like cheese and yogurt as preferred

source of calcium due to their high calcium levels. In case you are

lactose intolerant, you can also opt for other dairy products that are

either lactose-free or have low levels of lactose. Yogurt is contains a

chemical called lactoferrin which an iron-binding protein which

promotes the growth and activity of osteoblasts (the cells that build

bones).

Nuts and Seeds

Besides being rich in calcium, nuts like walnuts,

flaxseeds, almonds, pistachios etc are also very good sources of

minerals and omega 3 fatty acids. Peanuts and calcium contain potassium

which prevents loss of calcium in urine.

Greens

Dark green leafy veggies like brocolli and spinach are great

sources of calcium and vitamin D and it's the latter which helps in

absorption of Calcium and Phosphorus, thereby ensuring growth of healthy bones and teeth.

Collards and turnip greens can also be helpful in providing you with

your daily dose of calcium. The alkaline effect of eating a diet rich

in these vegetables will help you to strengthen your bones and promote

bone growth by preventing calcium loss. Besides, plant sterols (steroid

hormones) are converted to a hormone called calciferol and that aids

calcium absorption.

Exercising is critical because it has a relaxing effect on the whole body. More than any other blood type, blood type 0  need to be physically active to maintain health and emotional stability. Regular physical activity is required three to four times a week.
For best results, aerobic exercises need to be done for thirty to forty five minutes at least four times a week.
Set clear plans what are your goals, whether they are annual, monthly, weekly or daily to avoid impulsive reactions. Bring these lifestyle changes gradually.
Consume all meals, even snacks, sitting at the table. Chew slowly and be relaxed.
