Dear Mr Bala

I pray to God to protect me from all evils and all dangers, and I believe that the Almighty God to whom I pray for protection does not need my  protection. If any person does any thing against Him, it is for Him to punish the person. If   God requires our intervention to protect Him from other human beings,  He is not God, he is weaker than human  beings as it is the mighty who protect the weak. For this reason I despise people who kill people in the name of blasphemy and condemn the laws to protect God.

Coming specifically to the sacrilege of religious books, I heard about an incident which happened in Tamil Nadu about 30 years back. A Christian organisation used to print Bibles and give it off free or at a very nominal price. Once one person claiming to be a Christian ordered a huge quantity of Bibles from this organisation allegedly for free distribution. He collected a truck load of Bibles and transported it to Shivkasi for producing crackers (Padakas). It came to light when the truck met with an accident and the person died. This is God's justice.

[www.keralites.net] Get a Global Equity Edge

Get a Global Equity Edge
By investing in global funds, one can get global exposure to equity assets and hedge currency risk
Investors in global funds are seeing strong double-digit gains on their investments, as the rupee has weakened considerably against the dollar. Global funds have returned 15.50 per cent against seven per cent from the Sensex, according to Value Research, as the rupee dipped 15 per cent this year. Only information technology (IT), pharmaceutical and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) have performed better than global funds.

Global funds like Franklin US Opportunities have returned 41 per cent, ICICI Prudential US Bluechip Equity 38 per cent and DSPBR US Flexible Equity 36 per cent.

Global funds give diversification and participation in equity assets in foreign countries. This diversifies the geographical risk of investing only in rupees, as investors get exposure in dollars and other currencies. Thus, investors not only get exposure to foreign equity assets, but can also hedge some of the risk if the rupee falls.

Experts back global funds as a way to diversify one's portfolio. Renu Pothen, head, research, at Fundsupermart, says these are making up for poor domestic market performance. "One takes a long-term view and with a horizon of at least three to five years when investing in these."

Investing 10 to 15 per cent of your portfolio in these is a good way to diversify, says Dhruva Chatterji of Morningstar India Research. "Over the past year, we are seeing emerging markets like India under-perform most developed ones. Diversifying in another economy helps the portfolio make money." He says those with a lower appetite for equity assets should not take this route.

These also give exposure to themes such as global agriculture or south American equity or equity exposure to the US market. Hence investors will have to keep a track of where they want to invest and in which countries they would like an equity exposure. Sanjay Sinha of Citrus Advisors says one should look at the underlying theme and the geography before making an investment. "If one decides to invest in a geography, the investor would need to keep a track of it."

This year, many fund houses filed offer documents to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) to launch global schemes.

Experts say ideally one should invest in dollar-denominated funds that invest in equity assets abroad. One should also track the investments in foreign assets on a yearly basis. Besides, financial planners say global funds should not exceed 10-15 per cent of one's portfolio.

However, these funds can also be used to hedge against currency risk for goals such as education abroad. "This is a good way to hedge for goals like saving for a child's foreign education some years down the line," says Pothen. But you need to have a long-term view of at least five years when you link investments in global funds for goals like foreign education, as timing currency movement may not be easy. Source BS

Re: [www.keralites.net] A new work culture in Kerala

Middle men make 10 to 20 times the gains while actual farmer ( producer) investing hard work and money taking all the risks gets a pittance.
Further, the middle men control the market prices.
The Co- op Societies have to play a more important role to give the farmer his due share and the common man gets the commodity at a lower price. Such objectives of the Co-operatives are quite often forgotten, when politicians are placed to head/ control such Co-ops.

Co-ops should be managed by the farmers /producers themselves, with professional assistance from outside for mechanization, processing, storage, value addition, marketing etc.Punjab is an example in this ,for the same reason It has the well-to-do farmers. More than 40 years back all the punjabi farmers were using tractors and tillers in their fields.Look at Kerala even today most farmers are unable to use these due to perverted political ideologies. Change in Kerala came only too late, when Agriculture virtually stopped, mainly due to high labor costs in spite of good weather and water.

Dear,

There is no surprise in this. For the last so many years, farmers in this country are suffering from this. Tomato which is bought @ Rs 2 from the farmers are being sold @ Rs 20 or 30 in the market. The Rs 2 paid to the farmer is again not from their pocket but from the advance paid by their clients.

DR. TITUS JOHN
A friend of mine, who is a doctor in Thiruvananthapuram, called me the other day to tell this story. He recently built a house in one of the city suburbs. One day, a man who lives nearby, came and asked him why he still had no curtains on the windows.
Doctor, he said, this is a beautiful, new house. But where are the curtains? You need curtains.
Curtains, he said, would look nice on this new building. My friend told the man that he would call him after some time. The man gave my friend his address and left. A month later, my friend decided to put curtains and went in search of this man. But when he enquired in the locality, he was told that there was none who stitched curtains.
After a couple of days, the man again appeared before my friend. Doctor, it seems you came searching for me. My friend told him that he was indeed there but could not locate him. To this, the man replied, True doctor, it is me and my brother who are doing this. I will bring him soon.
And off he went. But a few days later, both were back. When the doctor gave the specifications for the curtains, they said they would return. They were true to their word but they brought with them an emaciated man. This man took the measurements and the curtains were ready in a week.
But what were the first two doing? Of course, we all know what they were doing. They did nothing. But they made money out of the poor tailors labour and sweat. And this is the latest and rapidly spreading work culture in every field of activity in Kerala.
Who on earth said you cannot catch fish without wetting your hands?

RE: [www.keralites.net] Extremism has no place in Islam !!!

USA cannot be considered as a Christian country, like the Islamist countries. All their laws are secular unlike Islamic countries where Sharia is the law. There  may be more Christians  there than any other religious groups, but that does not make it a Christian country. It is like calling India as a Hindu country, as majority are Hindus.

Christians have also caused lot of destruction in the past and that
continues even now in the form of USA . But there is a serious rethinking
now in America (see the restraint in case of Syria). When countries or
individuals face weakening financial resources or feel less motivated by
their religious affinities, violence and urge to dominate others will
decrease. Muslims financial resources will decrease when more oil and gas
production starts in countries other than OPEC. Perhaps the world on the
whole would be a better place if we decide to create heaven on earth by
living peacefully with our fellow human beings who are around us rather
than take less interest in the imaginary concepts of God and Heaven

Dear Od...Eenji,

In the whole world, at present and in the past, it been proved that muslim
countries have more violence & coup for power.

All the Holy books are created by men to guide the society in right path.
The violence created by she-ya or sunny Muslims are for money and power to
control. In- Iraq/Afghanistan/Pakistan/most of the muslim dominated African
countries 99% innocent people are being killed in the name of religion.

Why..... Now-a days muslims don't read their holy book?

Extremism has no place in Islam

A subject that becomes the talk of the town in the month of September is
the peril of extremism and terrorism in the world. Sometimes, this debate
goes one step further and people start talking about extremism and
radicalisation in Islam. Is there any extremism in Islam?

There is no room for extremism in Islam whatsoever. Islam categorically and
unreservedly and in the strongest terms condemns extremism of any form, of
any kind and for any purpose. The Holy Prophet Muhammad advised Muslims to
be moderate and said: "In every matter, moderation is best. A person should
take the path of moderation in his activities."

It is true that Islam has had to face some extremist elements in one form
or another throughout its history. But extremism itself has no place
whatsoever in the religion of Islam. If Islam is so strict against
extremism then why is it associated with terrorism?

The fourth Caliph of the Ahmadiyya Community says: "Islam is as closely
related to terrorism as light is to darkness or life is to death or peace
is to war. They do come into contact with each other, of course, but from
directions diametrically opposed. They are found grappling with each other
but never walking hand in hand happily together.

"However, one cannot deny that on many occasions some Muslims are found
involved in terrorist activities either on behalf of a group or on behalf
of a country with a predominately Muslim population."

One should bear in mind that the involvement of some Muslim individuals or
groups in extremist activities does not justify labelling Islam as
promoting terrorism and extremism. Terrorists and extremists can have any
religious background.

What we should focus on is whether a religion itself has to do anything
with extremism or sponsors militancy. Does Islam condone terrorism for any
reason?

The Holy Quran promotes the establishment of peace, champions the sanctity
of human life and condemns disorder in the land. It states:

"Whosoever killed a person – it shall be as if he had killed all mankind;
and who so gave life to one, it shall be as if he had given life to all
mankind" (5:33).

"Whenever they kindle a fire for war, Allah extinguishes it. And they
strive to create disorder in the earth and Allah loves not those who create
disorder" (5:65).

"There should be no compulsion in religion" (2:257).

"And Allah calls to the abode of peace."

These few references will prove that Islam as a religion does not tolerate
violence and aggression. The involvement of some Muslims, individuals or
groups in terrorist attacks has nothing to do with Islam because that is
their personal agenda.

Re: [www.keralites.net] Temples now the only hope for gold industry?

Each one be it an individual, family, organization or even a country must have three things. Property, gold and cash. These are fundamental economic principles unless we expect the government to feed and cloth us like what the Russian communists promised (look where they are now)
Temples too are entities and must have their property, gold and cash for survival. They should not be taken away. If we allow this, tomorrow what is to prevent the same rule from being applied to all citizens (barring those in power) who would be asked to surrender their gold and all wealth for the supposedly noble cause of running a nation. We all know what that running the nation involves ! It would only be a transfer of property to the corrupt politicians and officials. Yes, running of hospitals and institutions should and are being undertaken by rich temples but it is their prerogative. Just like churches run bible schools and mosques run madarassas no body is forcing the church of south india or the church of north india or the WAQF Board to surrender their wealth. It would be unconstitutional.

What will happen if the Gold in Temples is made use for some useful purpose like establishing Educational institutions or Hospitals under very able and professional hands. Let some young and enthusiastic doctors
join as a group and make a Co-Operative Society Hospital and serve the very needy and poor people by using this Gold as capital. For that, the Temple management should help them to do so, instead of keeping this gold as a blocked stuff in a locker. The temple should be the ultimate owner of the the Gold and serve the Humanity by using this item. The God will be much happy with this kind of charity.

Temples now the only hope for gold industry?

New Delhi, Sep 16 (IANS) The glitter has gone out of the gold industry and it is hoping for divine intervention - but of a different kind - to breakout from the negative phase. Industry stakeholders feel if India's gold-rich temples part with at least half of their treasure, this will save the government from importing the yellow metal for at least four to five months.
"I feel that if the temples sell part of their gold, the country do not import gold for five to six months. The consumption of gold in India will remain static, no matter how much the government asks citizens not to buy gold. The market is going through a slump," Harshad Ajmera, a director of the All India Gems Jewellery Trade Federation, told IANS.
A similar sentiment was echoed by Pankaj Parekh, vice chairman, Gems Jewellery Export Promotion Council, who said a partial release of temple gold can not only save the country from foreign exchange outflows but can even help in export earnings.
"If the temples release some of their gold, the country need not import this for another four-five months. It will be win-win situation for both the government and the temples. The government will save a lot of foreign exchange," he added.
All this is predicated on building consensus between the temples on parting with some of their gold.
There were reports that the RBI had sent a circular to some of India's prominent temples seeking details of their gold stocks. Three of the richest temples have, however, denied receiving such a circular.
"We have not received any request from the RBI as of now. The gold is with the treasury department and we cannot give any estimation. We get around Rs.2 crore as hundis (offerings) everyday," a spokesperson of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam in Andhra Pradesh told IANS.
Kerala's Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple, which dates back almost 5,000 years, is also believed to have enormous amount of gold, precious stones, rare coins and idols.
"We have not received any letters from the RBI seeking any information regarding the temple gold. We have no estimation of the temple treasury. This temple dates back to thousands of years and offerings to Padmanabhaswamy have been made since then. It is difficult to even hypothetically give any estimation," an executive director of the Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple told IANS.
M.V.Nair, chief of the expert committee appointed by the Supreme Court for drawing up an inventory of the temple's wealth, told IANS: "We are asked to document the inventories of the temple. We are reporting directly to the Supreme Court. Our parametres for working are restricted. The Supreme Court will decide what it will do with the findings. We are working in this project for the last one year and hope to complete the project by December."
An official of the Chidambaram Temple in Tamil Nadu also denied of receiving any letter from RBI.
The RBI and the government have already adopted many steps to control the import of gold to arrest the current account deficit. The government recently raised customs duty on gold to 10 percent.
Import of gold swelled 87 percent from 205 tonnes in April-July 2012 to 383 tonnes during the corresponding period of 2013. Last year, 900 tonnes of gold was imported. After oil, gold amounts for India's second highest import bill.
The current price of gold is around Rs.30,375 per 10 grams. No imports have taken place since July 22.
