Aspirin, developed in the 1890s, is a life saver for those with thick blood, but its use must be carefully monitored. Someone with thick blood and using aspirin (as a blood thinner) must take a monthly hemogram to monitor his/her hematocrit (the ratio between RBCs and plasma: for males it should not exceed 50% and for females 44.5%).
 
If a person's hematocrit has returned to normal, he/she must stop taking aspirin. If this is not done, aspirin will cause bleeding, as pointed out in one of the posts in this thread.
 
Coconut water is a God-given  "elixir of life".  If you google to know what it contains, you will be surprised that it contains everything that human plasma contains.  So, drinking a glass of cconut water every day can help eliminate the need to use aspirin. For those of u who are not dealing with thick blood, coconut water gives what we need at our stage of life to continue to be healthy.
 
How lucky we are that we can buy a coconut so cheap here.  In the US and elsewhere in the western world, coconut water, after all, is the winner over all other energy drinks and is being processed, canned, and sold at a very high price..  



Taking aspirin daily may extend life, prevent heart attacks

Taking low-dose aspirin every day may reduce the risk of a heart attack, prevent some cancers and extend lives over the course of 20 years in adults at high risk of heart disease, a new study has claimed.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in both men and women, researchers said.

Aspirin can help patients at risk of heart disease because it thins the blood and prevents clotting. "Although the health benefits of aspirin are well established, few people take it," said lead author David B Agus from University of Southern California in the US.

"Our study shows multiple health benefits and a reduction in health care spending from this simple, low-cost measure that should be considered a standard part of care for the appropriate patient," said Agus.

Researchers used representative data from several surveys. To assess the long-term benefits of aspirin, they ran two scenarios which project the health of older Americans and their trajectory in ageing.

The model accounted for individual health characteristics such as chronic disease, the ability to conduct daily activities, body mass index and mortality, researchers said.

The first scenario in study, the "Guideline Adherence", focused on determining the potential health and savings, benefits and drawbacks of following the task force's guidelines from 2009.

The second scenario, "Universal Eligibility", was not realistic and aimed to measure the full potential benefits and drawbacks if all Americans 51 and older, regardless of the guidelines, took aspirin every day.

They found that following the guidelines would prevent 11 cases of heart disease and four cases of cancer for every 1,000 Americans aged 51 to 79.

Life expectancy would improve by 0.3 years (largely disability-free), so out of 1,000 people, eight more would reach age 80 and three more would reach the age of 100.

Also, by 2036, an estimated 900,000 more Americans would be alive as a result of the aspirin regimen, researchers said.

However, the researchers found no significant reduction for stroke incidence. Also, the rate of gastrointestinal bleeding would increase 25 per cent from the current rate.
This means that two out of 63 Americans could expect to suffer a bleeding incident between the ages of 51 to 79.

The optimistic "Universal Eligibility" scenario, which assumes that the clinically-proven benefits of aspirin extend to all older Americans, showed slightly larger health benefits than the "Guideline Adherence" scenario.

Although longer life spans mean an increase in lifetime medical costs, "observing the guidelines would yield positive and significant net value," researchers said. The study was published in the journal PLOS ONE.

Recognize a Heart Attack Before it Happens!


The main cause of early deaths in the US are heart attacks. The stress of life, coupled with the junk food that we keep consuming, are major reasons why this illness is becoming more common.  
Leading a healthy lifestyle, with plenty of exercise, and trying to limit your levels of stress can help significantly decrease your risk of heart failure, but another thing that can be just as useful, even lifesaving, is being aware of the symptoms of heart failure a month before it happens.
The following are symptoms that could be warning you of the possibility of a heart attack in a month. If you experience any of these red flags, get yourself to a doctor immediately.  Even if it eventually turns out to be something not as serious as a heart attack, isn't it better to be safe than sorry?
 
Heart Attack - Symptoms - Before it Happens
1. Fatigue 
When your arteries become narrow, your heart receives a lot less blood than it's used to. As a result, your heart has to work overtime, leaving you feeling tired and drowsy all the time.
2. Shortness of Breath
When your heart is getting less blood than it's used to, your lungs are not going to be getting the oxygen they need. This is because the two systems depend on one another, so if one isn't working up to scratch, the other won't be either. If you are having difficulty breathing it's best to see your doctor as soon as possible, as this could mean that a heart attack is just around the corner.

 
3. Weakness
When, all of a sudden, your body becomes weak, it's because your blocked arteries are not allowing your blood to circulate properly. Poor circulation will prevent your muscles from getting the oxygen that they need and, as a result, you may feel very weak and may even collapse.
4. Flu or Cold Symptoms

If you experience flu symptoms out of the blue this could be because a heart attack is about to happen in the not-so-distant-future. Many people who have had heart attacks say that they feel like they developed a cold before their attacks.
 
5. Dizziness and Cold Sweats
Poor circulation will also restrict the blood flow to your brain. This is life threatening in itself, and will at first cause dizziness and clamminess. Do not ignore this!
6. Chest Pressure
If you are experiencing the onset symptoms of a heart attack, chances are you have also been experiencing a discomfort in your chest - whether it's minor pain or a built-up pressure. This discomfort will gradually increase until the heart attack itself happens.
