Malaysia's top nutritionist on eggs
Dr JB Lim is the current TOP Nutritionist in Malaysia.

Dear all,

Thank you for asking me.

Sometime back someone asked me the same question about eggs and its effect on health. I have already written and replied to him or her in a lengthy article supporting the nutritive and health benefits of eggs. I also gave scientific updates on more recent findings some of which are correctly given here as sent to me.

However the author of the article needs to give at least some references of papers published in scientific journals to support the claims even though they are right.

But to super-summarize what I wrote last time in just 13 lines without me having to go all over again explaining the complexities of physiology, biochemistry, nutritional pathogenesis related to eggs and waste time and effort again, below are the yes points about eggs in human nutrition.
But I have to leave out some minor no points since the positive benefits far outweigh its negative values.

1. Eggs and milk are among the best foods for the body especially to a growing child.

2. Eggs do not cause an elevation of blood cholesterol.

3. Eggs do not clog up the coronary vessels as once thought. In fact the opposite is now true.
4. Eggs are low in energy value, and is a factor to consider in the formulation of a caloric-restriction diet.

5. Eggs protein quality is extremely high, and has a very high nitrogen-retention value. Hence it is extremely useful in post-surgical care, trauma, and in post-management of hypovolemic shock against negative nitrogen balance.

6. Eggs contain vitamin D in its natural form. The benefits of vitamin D require several chapters on human nutrition in medicine to discuss. And I refuse to repeat.

7. Eggs are cancer-protective, especially for breast cancer.

8. Eggs are very rich in sulfur-containing amino acids methionine which is a very crucial amino-acid in blocking damaging free radicals. These are directly linked to the pathogenesis of heart disease, cancers, DNA damage, all degenerative disorders, and accelerated aging.

9. Eggs protect against fatty liver, slow growth, macular degeneration (degeneration of the macula area of the retina in the eyes. This is responsible for central vision for reading, face recognition and detailed vision), edema (water retention), and various skin lesions.

10. Eggs promote healthy growth of nails, hair and skin.

11. Eggs are rich in tryphophan, selenium, iodine, and riboflavin (vitamin B2).

12. Eggs selenium content is cardio-protective against Keshan disease, cardiomyopathies (diseases involving the heart muscles, cardiomegaly (enlarged heart), myocardial dysfunction (poor heart function) and death from heart failure.

13. Eggs are protective against Kashin-Beck disease (osteoarthropathy), myxedematous endemic cretinism (mental retardation).
14. The list goes on…on!

This is one of those articles that may make one go to extreme and consume too much. Remember -- anything that is consumed too much is bad for your health. Do everything in moderation.
10 Health Benefits of Eggs
1. Eggs are great for the eyes. According to one study, an egg a day may prevent mascular degeneraton due to the carotenoid content, specifically and zeaxanthin. Both nutrients are more readily available to our bodies from eggs than from other sources.

2. In another study, researchers found that people who eat eggs every day lower their risk of developing cataracts, also because of the lutein and zeaxanthin in eggs.

3. One egg contains 6 grams of high-quality protein and all 9 essential amino acids.

4. According to a study by the Harvard School of Public Health, there is no significant link between egg consumption and heart disease. In fact, according to one study, regular consumption of eggs may help prevent blood clots, and heart attacks.

5. They are a good source of choline. One egg yolk has about 300 micrograms of choline. Choline is an important nutrient that helps regulate the brain, nervous system, and cardiovascular system.

6. They contain the right kind of fat. One egg contains just 5 grams of fat and only 1.5 grams of that is saturated fat.

7. New research shows that, contrary to previous belief, moderate consumption of eggs does not have a negative impact on cholesterol. In fact, recent studies have shown that regular consumption of two eggs per day does not affect a person's lipid profile and may, in fact, improve it. Research suggests that it is saturated fat that raises cholesterol rather than dietary cholesterol.
8. Eggs are one of the only foods that contain naturally occurring vitamin D.

9.. Eggs may prevent breast cancer. In one study, women who consumed at least 6 eggs per week lowered their risk of breast cancer by 44%.

10. Eggs promote healthy hair and nails because of their high sulphur content and wide array of vitamins and minerals. Many people find their hair growing faster after adding eggs to their diet, especially if they were previously deficient in foods containing sulphur or B12.

Hands that serve are Holier than Lips that Pray

Rock Salt or Sea Salt (and miracles do occur!)

STRESS RELIEF. Is salt bad for hypertensive?

What is bad for hypertension is iodized salt, which is a fake salt. It
is made up of only 3 synthetic chemicals, sodium, chloride, iodine. It
does not melt in water (glistens like diamonds), does NOT melt in the
body, does not melt in the kidneys, gives kidney stones, and raises
blood pressure. However, it is the salt favored by the synthetic
drug-based doctors who say it is very clean and sanitary, pointing to
how white it is and how it glistens like diamonds. The fake salt is
man-made in a factory. The true salt, which comes from the sea and
dried under the sun and commonly called rock salt , has 72 natural
minerals including natural sodium, chloride, iodine. It melts in
water, melts in your body, melts in the kidneys, do not give kidney
stones, and best of all brings down blood pressure and stops/prevents
muscle cramps, numbness, tingling.

If you get muscle cramps in the lower legs at night, just take ½
teaspoon of rock salt and a glass of water, and the cramps with its
horrific pain will be gone in 5 minutes. The highest BP that came my
way was in a woman who had a BP of 240/140 and came to my house at
10:30 pm on what she said was a matter of "life and death" because the
high BP was already giving her a crushing headache, especially the
back of her head. She could not walk up the 6 shallow steps to my
porch. Two men had to help her, one on each side, in addition to the
cane that she needed to prop herself up.

I muscle tested her and found that underlying her BP of 240/140 and
the crushing pain in the head, her body's water content was only 6%
(normal is 75%), salt content was zero, potassium was 96% deficient,
and cardiac output (blood flow from the heart) was only 40% (normal is
100%). So the blood supply to the head was 60% deficient.

I gave her one 6" long green sili (hot pepper), 1 raw ripe saba
banana, 1/2 teaspoon of rock salt and 3 8-oz glasses of tap water. The
sili was to normalize cardiac output and shoot blood to the head, the
saba banana was for the potassium deficiency and to have food in the
stomach because pepper will give a stomach ache if the stomach is
empty, and the rock salt and the water were the first aid for her
severe dehydration which was causing her arteries to be dry and stiff
and her blood to be thick and sticky, because they were dehydrated.

After 5 minutes, she said, "The pain in my head is gone." We took her
BP, it was 115/75, and cardiac output was up to 100%.

She walked out of the house to her car without the men helping her and
without the cane.

She has been taking 2.5 teaspoons of rock salt, 15 glasses of water, 6
Saba bananas and 3 of the long pepper daily since then (beginning
September 2009), and her BP and cardiac output have been normal since
then.

Two months later, in November, at a PCAM round table forum on
hypertension in Club Filipino, she gave her testimony, followed by her
brother who said that she grew 2", because the salt and the water had
refilled her compressed disc spaces in her vertebral column. The disc
spaces had become compressed because they had become dehydrated since
the fluid filling up these discs are 95% water.

Why salt? Because without salt the body cannot retain water no matter
how much water is drunk. You will still be dehydrated because you will
just keep urinating and sweating the water out.

This is not an isolated case. When BP is rising high but there is
little or no headache but there is stiffness of shoulder and neck
muscles, all you need to normalize the BP and remove the stiffness and
the pain in 5 minutes is 1/2 teaspoon of rock salt and 3 glasses of
water. If there is crushing pain in the head, it means blood supply to
the head is lacking, and you will need the sili to normalize it and
shoot blood to the head and remove the extreme pain.

PLEASE SHARE IF YOU MAY , IT MAY HELP SOMEONE

It's a Houseplant, It's a Healer, NO... It's Cactus

Did you know that many foods and drinks labeled "no sugar", low in sugar, or "for diabetics" contain chemicals that can interfere with normal pancreatic function, while over stimulating your appetite and feeling of hunger? The pancreas is the organ in your body that is responsible for producing insulin. Be sure to watch for future issues to learn more about these troublesome chemicals.
As you venture on this path to greater awareness, understanding, and appreciation of your blood sugar health, and the better choices you can make to manage your health in general. We hope you will incorporate the suggestions we offer to optimize your daily food choices. The benefits are real and the choice is yours!
So what is this healing houseplant commonly found in homes around the world? Yes, it's the cactus, or the Aloe Vera plant, along with a cousin you may have never heard of.
Aloe Vera? Yes. Also known as 'Nature's Silent Healer', Aloe Vera has been clinically proven to help assist the body in reducing glucose levels as well as triglycerides. It is the gel that is inside the shoots of the cactus that work as an anti-inflammatory agent. Who would have thought? But it is true. It is commonly used worldwide to treat sunburns and to promote quick skin healing; but Aloe Vera was also recently proven in scientific studies to both help the body to metabolize sugars and even lower glucose levels in people who are hyperglycemic.
However, the cactus family has another lesser-known member, the Nopal Cactus, or the Nopales in Spanish, and we also know it as the Prickly Pear Cactus; in the supermarket you may know of them as Nopalitos (or Baby Nopales). The prickly pear fruit has recently garnered much interest in the scientific community because it is the richest source of betalains in the plant kingdom. Betalains are
/td> phytochemicals unique to nopal cactus, beets, and Swiss chard. It is these chemical, which gives these vegetables their ruby red color. Betalains are glycosides, which also means they help to reduce blood glucose levels. Medical research performed in the 1990's showed the benefits of the nopal cactus for diabetics to be significant.
Other important benefits include the antioxidant properties of betalains, which protect the inner lining of blood vessels and the lymph system. A 2004 clinical study published in Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences states [that the betalains in prickly pear were clearly demonstrated to protect vascular endothelial cells from the free radical effects of redox alteration from cytokines, the "signal" proteins that regulate the immune system.]
That is excellent news - because both can be ingested as a simple daily supplement to get all the benefits that this cactus offers. Though you can also add them to a variety of recipes such as salads, eggs, and salsas to take advantage of their healthful benefits.
Today's Blood Sugar Health Tip
• Action Step: Include a 16-ounce glass of water with every meal; make it your drink of choice every time you think you are thirsty or even hungry drink tall glass first. Add a squeeze lemons or limes, and fresh cut wedge of lemon or lime to every glass. Make your daily goal to consume at least 2-quarts of water everyday. And think about adding some cactus to your regular nutritional routine.
The next issue of Blood Sugar Health will explain where your voracious appetite has come from, and what you can do to appease it. So keep your eye on your inbox to learn more!
