Like Advent, Lent is a season of preparation; as we prepared in Advent for Christ's coming, so now we prepare in Lent to celebrate Easter and the good news of His Resurrection. When does Lent begin and end? Lent begins on a day called Ash Wednesday and ends on the Saturday before Easter. The Lent season lasts 40 days not counting the Sunday's. The season of Lent climaxes in what is known as the Great Three Days; from sunset Maundy Thursday to sunset Easter Day. These days proclaim the mystery at the heart of the Christian faith: The passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. How can Lent be observed? Lent is a season of often characterized by a season of "giving up" and "adding". Jesus spent forty days under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the temptation of Satan. Jesus fasted, "gave up" food therefore Christians often "give up" something of worth trusting God's Spirit to give them victory over the temptation of Satan to give in. The Spirit gave him victory by reminding him "It is written…" Therefore many Christians "add" daily scripture reading to gain wisdom and power for their times of weakness. This LENT... !!! Here is hoping and wishing that this Lenten Season a more fruitful, meaningful and assist you to contemplate and meditate the Suffering, Death and Resurrection of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
