Qutb Minar in Delhi

Gopal Singh, Raja of Chamba - 1870

Gopal Singh came to power in 1870 but abdicated in 1873; he died in March 1895 at Manjir. He is credited with building a beautiful palace at Jandarighat as his summer residence.Source: British Library

Maharaj Rana of Dholpur Sir Bhagwant Singh - 1870
Photographer: Bourne and Shepherd
Bhagwant Singh succeeded his father, Kirat Singh the first Maharaj rana of Dholpur, in 1836 continuing to govern under British protection. In 1869 Bhagwant was created a Grand Commander of the Star of India for his loyalty during the Uprising of 1857. He was succeeded in 1873 by his grandson Nihal Singh.
