മൊഗാദിഷു: സൊമാലിയയില്‍ 2010-2012 കാലഘട്ടത്തിലെ ക്ഷാമത്തില്‍ മരിച്ചത് രണ്ടു ലക്ഷത്തിഅറുപതിനായിരം പേരെന്ന് പഠനറിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട്. ഇതില്‍ പകുതിയും അഞ്ചുവയസ്സിനു താഴെയുള്ള കുട്ടികളാണ്. യു.എന്‍-അമേരിക്ക സംയുക്ത ഏജന്‍സികളാണ് പഠനം നടത്തിയത്. വരള്‍ച്ച, വിവിധ വിഭാഗങ്ങള്‍തമ്മിലുള്ള ഏറ്റുമുട്ടലുകള്‍ എന്നിവ മൂലമുണ്ടായ ഈ ദുരന്തം കഴിഞ്ഞ 25 വര്‍ഷത്തിനിടെ ലോകത്തുണ്ടായ ഏറ്റവും ഭയാനകമായ ക്ഷാമത്തിന്റെ സന്തതിയാണ്.


2011-ല്‍ സൊമാലിയയിലെ ചില പ്രദേശങ്ങളില്‍ ക്ഷാമമുള്ളതായി ഐക്യരാഷ്ട്രസംഘടന പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചിരുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍ ഇവിടെ പ്രാദേശികഭരണം നടത്തുന്ന അല്‍ഖ്വയ്ദയുമായി ബന്ധമുള്ള ചില ഇസ്‌ലാമികസംഘടനകള്‍ ഇത് നിഷേധിക്കുകയും വിദേശസഹായം സ്വീകരിക്കുന്നത് നിരോധിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. ക്ഷാമം പിന്നീട് മറ്റു പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലേക്കും വ്യാപിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. 1992-ലുണ്ടായ ക്ഷാമത്തില്‍ ഇവിടെ രണ്ടുലക്ഷത്തിഇരുപതിനായിരം പേര്‍ മരിച്ചിരുന്നു.


തെക്കന്‍, മധ്യസൊമാലിയയിലെ ആകെ ജനസംഖ്യയുടെ 4.6 ശതമാനവും അഞ്ചുവയസ്സിനു താഴെയുള്ള കുട്ടികളില്‍ പത്തുശതമാനവും ക്ഷാമത്തില്‍ മരിച്ചുവെന്നാണ് കണക്കാക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നത്. മരിച്ചവരില്‍ ഷാബെല്ലയിലെ താഴ്ന്ന പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലെ 18 ശതമാനവും മൊഗാദിഷുവിലെ 17 ശതമാനവും അഞ്ചുവയസ്സിനു താഴെയുള്ളവരാണ്. ഒരുകോടി മുപ്പത് ലക്ഷം പേര്‍ ക്ഷാമത്തിന്റെ ദുരിതമനുഭവിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. പതിനായിരക്കണക്കിനാളുകള്‍ ഭക്ഷണം തേടി വീടുപേക്ഷിച്ചു പോയതായും പഠനം സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.
