ഗതാഗത, വാര്‍ത്താവിനിമയബന്ധങ്ങള്‍ താറുമാറായതും പ്രതികൂലകാലാവസ്ഥയും മൂലം സൈന്യത്തിനെത്തിപ്പെടാനാവാത്ത പ്രദേശങ്ങളില്‍ അരലക്ഷത്തോളംപേര്‍ കുടുങ്ങിക്കിടക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. ഇവരെ രക്ഷിക്കാനുള്ള ശ്രമം തുടരുകയാണ്.
പതിനായിരത്തോളം സൈനികരാണ് രക്ഷാപ്രവര്‍ത്തനത്തിലേര്‍പ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നത്. കരസേനയുടെയും വ്യോമസേനയുടെയും 43 ഹെലികോപ്റ്ററുകളും രംഗത്തുണ്ട്. വെള്ളിയാഴ്ച 40,000 ചതുരശ്ര കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ മേഖലയില്‍ നിരീക്ഷണപ്പറക്കല്‍ നടത്തിയ ഹെലിക്കോപ്റ്ററുകള്‍ മലയിടുക്കുകളില്‍ കുടുങ്ങിയവരെ രക്ഷിച്ചു.
