the reaason for iol pricing is very simple. Political leadersship is trying to equate the oil prices with private sector -like reliance or essar so they can make billions. When political leadership is not keen to control prices why do the corrupt beaurocrasy. they are enjoying the chances. Do any of us filling fuel by the directives of the advertisements or sponsorship  Then why are they giving huge ads - every ad gives 10-15% as bribe to the concerned. Imagine the huge amount of money

second issue is salary and benefits of the employees - the highest in the country. there is risk in oil fields and production. most of the jobs have risks-forget about it. What is the risk of an admin officer working in the delhi headquarters who has never saw a rig is getting huge salary and perks saying that oil industry is risky. If these two aspects are addressed properly our oil prices will come down

You  are right. It's sheer inefficiency of the public sector with antiquated technology and behemoth workforce is the reason for the plight of today's economy. But the governments lethargy to touch this white elephants and the facilities enjoyed by MPs (one of our left MP was spending his holiday in the guise of an invitee of an oil major in TAJ when terror striked Mumbai ) make price hike inevitable. Personally I agree with the price hike in tune with the market sentiments as it would have a cascading effect in prices of other commodities in the market, but only after addressing the issues of this performance inefficiency of the public sector.
