The Ministry of Labor considers limiting jobs in communications and IT to Saudi citizens only. Foreigners will be banned from working in these two sectors, Minister Adel Fakeih said in a seminar on Monday.
The minister, according to local daily Al-Madinah, also said the ministry was working with three government and private institutions to fix the working hours for shopping centers and retail companies.
Fakeih was speaking at a workshop titled Investment Opportunities in the Retail Sector for Young Businessmen and businesswomen which was organized by the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
He said 36 initiatives were supporting SMEs for young businesspeople, providing them with financial resources, helping them create a conductive working atmosphere and enabling them to build to their capacity.
The minister called for creating an encouraging environment for the growth of small enterprises through supporting the youth who are dedicating their time to their own private businesses. He said the incentives that will be extended to the SMEs included the recruitment and transfer of foreign manpower.
The development of the capacity building and resources at SMEs will provide new job opportunities for Saudi youth and hence diminish the need to import foreign manpower, he said.
Fakeih said six months after its implementation, the decision to feminize jobs in lingerie shops started to bear fruits. Saudi women are now employed in more than 7,000 shops and establishments. The decision also helped reduce the remittances of foreign manpower and increased sales in the lingerie shops, he said.
