The History

 

 
 
 
There are a number of sacred rivers in our country and Periyar is one of the major rivers in Kerala. Periyar reaches Aluva, a town in Ernakulam district and gets divided into two near the Aluva Siva temple and  flows westwards. Sri Datta Temple is situated at Desom, the calm and naturally beautiful northern banks of the river where yagas were performed earlier.

The temple is close to NH47 from Aluva to Ankamally and is reachable by taking Swargam road soon after crossing Mangalappuzha bridge and walking about 200 meters. The temple can also be reached by taking a turn to Kalady road from Desom junction and taking a right turn after 200 meters and walkng about 150mts. There is yet another way to the temple by alighting at Kunnumpuram bus stop and coming  down through the road near Ananthapura temple.
The idol of Sidharaja Dattatraya, the union of the trinities, Brahma,Vishnu and Mahesa, guru to the sage Parasurama was consecrated on 1991, Chaitra 1st in the star Revathy (1991 March 18) by Sri Sri Sri Ganapathy Sachidananda Swamiji of the Avdhooda Datta Peetta and Sri Mahaganapathy as the sub idol .The idol of Karya Sidhi Anjaneya was consecrated on 1999, December 13th th by poojya swamiji. The three deities showers blessings on all the devotees and the entire village.


 

 

The Temple

 

 
 
Fun & Info @ Keralites.net Devotees entering the temple through the entrance gopura can see the Datta charitable clinic on the right side, bookstall, and annapoorna mandiram(a kitchen dining complex) on the left. A beautiful entrance to the temple welcomes the devotees to redress all their grievences. Temple of Lord Sidharaja Dattatreya built in stone is seen at the centre a bit elevated.
The deity with a smiling appearance has got Sankh(couch shell), Chakra(discus), Damaru(small drum), Thrissul(trident), Kamandalu(water vessel), Kamadhenu(the divine cow who is capable of fulfilling any wishes of the baktha)and Abhaya Hastha(a hand ready to save, console and redress). The idol has six eyes six hands embracing the devotees and thus stands sidharaja dattathreya, the trinity, taking care of the devotees.

At the backside of the temple on the way for perambulation is an Oudumbara Vriksha(Malayalam-athimaram, English-fig tree, Botanical name- Ficus Carika). It is a tree which is very very dear to the lord. Perambulating this tree brings solace and people without children are blessed to have children. It also keeps away the devils and evil forces from your home. The branches of this tree is used for homas and it is a constituvent in the Nalpamara(athi, ethi, peral, arrayal), an ayurvedic medicine for skin care.
On to the left of the main temple is the temple of Mahaganapathy with all the charisma and abhayamudra(a gesture showing ready to solve, save) assuring to remove all the physical, mental and spiritual obstructions experienced by the devotees. On the right side is the temple of Karyasidhi Anjaneya.
Fun & Info @ Keralites.net The construction of the Karyasidhi Anjaneya temple as wished by Sri Swamiji started in 1998. The idol of Anjaneya made at Sucheendram near Kanyakumari was brought in a procession with receptions at various temples of Kerala. The idol was brought accompanied by thousands of devotees, chanting Rama Sankeerthanas and Vedas by eminent scholars. The consecration was done by Datta Peedhathipathy paramapoojya Sri Sri Sri Ganapathy Sachidananda Swamiji at 8.30 AM on 13th December 1991.
"Let Lord Anjaneya hear the prayers and wishes of the devotees see and bless them especially the people close by" -said Swamiji. Refering to the then newly constructed air port at Nedumbassery (Kochi International air port ), swamiji wished that let Hanuman the son of air protect the air port.
The sanctum sanctorium of Anjeneya consists of Lakshmana, Sree Ramachandra and Seethe Devi. In micro forms, all the prayers and wishes in front of Lord Anjaneya becomes fruitful as Swamiji predicted and the name Karya Sidhi Anjaneya given by Sri Swamiji is taken up by the devotees.

An idol of Nagendra is consecrated along with Karyasidhi Anjeneya in the south west side of the temple. Idols of Navagrahas in front of Anjaneya temple was consecrated on 22nd April 2001 by Sri Swamiji. To the left of the temple there is the prayer hall and gurumandira (the place where Sri Swamiji resides during his visits) and there is a bath ghat at river Periyar for the physical and spiritual hygene of the devotees. 

Coconut Pooja

 

 
 
Devotees who perform Mandla Nalikera Vritham(Special coconut pooja) offer a coconut with husk to the temple which remains there for 41 days for poojas. They should chant "OM SRI KARYASIDHI ANJANEYA SWAMINAE NAMAH" at least 108 times a day, come to the temple daily or as per the convenience and perambulate for 41 times. On the 41st day, the devotees need to reach the temple, get the coconut back and take it home as prasadam and consume it. The pooja brings all wishes cherished, obstacles removed, sufferings ended and this is the most famous offering at this temple
How to do Nalikera Vritham?
  1. Obtain receipt from the pooja counter furnishing name and birth star of the devotee. 
  2. Take a coconut (provided at the temple) and place it along with the receipt on the holy steps of Hanuman temple.   
  3. The coconut received after pooja should be taken by the devotee and he/she should do 3 perambulations holding the coconut in their hands. It may be handed over at counter no:2 after that and the balance of 38 perambulations needs to be done.   
  4. The devotee should be on a strict vegetarian diet for the next 41 days after tying the coconut. He has to chant "OM SRI KARYASIDHI ANJENEYA SWAMINAE NAMAH" for 108 times in the morning and evening. Hanuman chalisa, other slokas and keerthanas can also be chanted.   
  5. On the 41st day, the devotee should come to the temple and collect the coconut and take it back home as prasada.
