Tongue very much in cheek…

A Parliament is nothing less than a big meeting of more or less idle people" – Walter Bagehot

(Comment: You know, an idle mind is devil's workshop. And because they have nothing else to do, they have lots of lung power, too).

Dutch firm to set up human colony on Mars in 2023…

A company from the Netherlands is planning to send four astronauts on a trip to Mars to set up a human colony in 2023. Though the company, Mars One, is optimistic about its plan, there are a couple of serious snags. Firstly, when on Mars their bodies will have to adapt to surface gravity that is 38 percent of that on Earth. But this would cause such a serious physiological change in their bone density, muscle strength and blood circulation that voyagers would no longer be able to survive when they get back on Earth.

(Me: hmmm. Throughout history, whatever thought impossible once, march of science overcame subsequently)

Frenchman escapes 'head-on' crock attack…

A French fisherman was bloodied but back on his fishing boat on Monday, hours after he escaped from the jaws of a young saltwater crocodile who attacked him while swimming along a remote stretch of Australia*s northern coast. Yoann Galeran, 29, was swimming from shore to a dingy on Sunday night when a crocodile between 2 to 2.5 metres clamped down on his head and neck and attempted to drown him in a maneuver known as a death roll. But he fought off the reptile.

Only in India…

UP has no funds for school exams.

Lucknow: UP chief minister's much tom-tommed free laptop sop for students appears to have drained the state's treasury to the point that it has left classrooms paperless. With exams looming, students of government primary and junior high schools across the state have been told to bring their answer sheets from home and teachers asked to write the questions on blackboards.

The government have no funds for marksheets, either.
