[www.keralites.net] Khatte-mitten khabhrain from around the world for 28/1/13

Be yourself, everyone else is taken.

Tongue very much in cheek…

Time may be a great healer, but it's also a lousy beautician!

Health tip…

For a good night's sleep, drink a glass of warm milk before going to bed.

Woman to husband: "From now on, all our conversations are going to be scripted."

(Me: As in movies!)

At a restaurant:

Rohan: Waiter, waiter. Are there snails on the menu?

Waiter: Yes there are, sir. But I'm afraid they must have escaped from the kitchen.

"Never vote for the best candidate, vote for the one who will do the least harm" – Frank Dane.

(Me: hmmm. Bt these days, all birds are of the same feather and flock together…)

A traveler pulls into a hotel around midnight and asks the clerk for a single room. As the clerk fills out the paperwork, the man looks around and sees a gorgeous woman sitting in the lobby. He tells the clerk to wait while he disappears. After a minute he's back, the girl on his arm. "Fancy meeting my wife here." He says to the clerk. "Guess I'll need a double room."

Next morning, he comes to settle his bill, and finds the amount to be over Rs.20,000. "What's the meaning of this?" he yells at the clerk. "I've only been here one night!"

"Yes," says the clerk, "but your wife has been here for three weeks."

"A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way" – John Maxwell.

(Me: Are there any such leaders now?)
**

"I have been writing for women's empowerment for almost three decades. Now three empowered woman made my life hell – Khaleda, Hasina, Mamata" – Taslima Nasreen on women's empowerment.

(Me: Women are their own worst enemies???!!)

Health news of the day…

Cows fed flaxseed give more nutritious milk.

Dairy cows that are fed flaxseed produce more nutritious milk, containing more omega-3 fatty acids and less saturated fat.

More health news…

Yoga to help beat depression:

A review focusing on 16 high-quality controlled studied looked at the effects of yoga on depression schizophrenia, ADHD, sleep complaints, eating disorders and cognition problems.

Deft definition…

Elder orphan: An elderly person who has no family or whose family can't or won't care for him.

News of the day…

'Lax enforcement to blame for gang rape' – Justice Verma (ex-CJI). (Source: HT 25/1/13)

The brutal gang rape of a 23-year old paramedical student in a moving bus in the capital could have been avoided had successive government not ignored for decades the guidelines laid down by courts.

(Me: The government of the day, though never a paragon of virtue or efficiency, is the favourite whipping boy of all and sundry. But one didn't expect this kind of passing-the-buck game from an honourable ex-CJI. One wonders if the judiciary of a country isn't an arm of the law-enforcement machinery. Would the citizens be wrong if they conclude that the judiciary should also be indicted for prevailing lawlessness and criminals doing things with impunity, for who is responsible for acquitting rapists and hardened criminals on technical grounds, not so competent prosecution and adjournment of cases for years on flimsiest of grounds which also result into unconscionably massive pile of cases?)

Hi frens!

The very large number of images I post on my homepage are sourced from several yahoo.groups I contribute to, from friends I exchange mails with and of course from the internet and I pick only the very best.

There are 600-plus albums with over 25,000 fotos/pics covering every subject, every topic under the sun. Even though all are the finest, the best of the best are to be found in the albums 1 and 2, titled "Human genius and creativity". Album 1 with the cover picture of the waxwork of the late Princess Diana has 1,000 images, the maximum permission in an fb album, and album 2 has 400-odd with still being more added every day. I call these the best of the best because they capture the artistic excellence of human beings – things made out of butter, playing cards, old tyres, scraps, PC keyboard key buttons, old typewriter parts, bicycle chains, beads, paper, maps, sand, frozen ice and anything you can think of.

If and when you do have time and inclination, leaf through these two albums and marvel at the human genius. It would especially be a rewarding experience on a Sunday….
