Newest addition to the Android menu: Google has released its latest version of the Android operating system - Android 4.0, codenamed 'Ice Cream Sandwich'. Google has not only refined the already existing applications and functionalities, but has also introduced a number of new features. Here's a peek into what's new in the world of Android, the world's most popular smartphone operating system.
Android 4.0 makes common actions more visible. Virtual buttons in the System Bar let users navigate instantly to Back, Home, and Recent Apps. The System Bar and virtual buttons are present across all apps, but these can be dimmed for full-screen viewing
Multitasking has been made even more easier on Android 4.0. The Recent Apps button lets users jump instantly from one task to another using the list in the System Bar. The list pops up and shows thumbnail images of apps used recently.
New home screen folders offer a new way for users to group their apps and shortcuts logically, just by dragging one onto another.
The lock screens now let users do more without unlocking. From the slide lock screen, users can jump directly to the camera for a picture or pull down the notifications window to check for messages.
When an incoming call arrives, users can now quickly respond by text message, without needing to pick up the call or unlock the device. All needs to be done is just simply slide a control to view a list of text responses and then tap to send and end the call.
The soft keyboard in Android 4.0 makes text input even faster and more accurate. Error correction and word suggestion are improved through a new set of default dictionaries.

Throughout the system, a user's social groups, profiles, and contacts are linked together and integrated for easy accessibility.

Users can now share what is on their screens more easily by taking screenshots. Hardware buttons let users snap a screenshot and store it locally. They can later view, edit, and share the screen shot in Gallery or a similar app.
Android Beam is an innovative feature for sharing across two NFC-enabled devices. It lets people exchange favorite apps, contacts, music, videos — almost anything. Just touch one Android-powered phone to another and tap to send.
Android 4.0 introduces a completely new approach to unlock the phone. It introduces Face Unlock, which is a new screen-lock option that lets users unlock their devices with their faces.
