Some of the nicest people are overweight, in fact they may be nicer than otherwise. Based on my recent survey at local supermarkets where 50% of customers were noticeably overweight, it seems that this is likely the case all over America! The situation is sad, especially for those overweight as they generally have habits that are not easy to give up. We are creatures of habits, and either fall into non self serving ones or good ones. Producers of foods, drinks, and drugs, including the millions who support their lives in employment of these 'providers', have no intention of harming others.
We now live in a world of forever expanding choices, unfortunately some of that 'expanding' is around the waist! What we consume, and how that affects us are personal choices including how it affects our health. It's easy for some to have a good self image, but most don't, and the results show up in how one looks, feels, and in general health. As weight goes up, self esteem tends to go the other way along with health problems in the long run.
I've been a 'people watcher' particularly starting when I began riding New York's subways for years. Over time my analysis is most people wear what they are, and think of themselves in how they look, and that includes weight. A poor self image is epidemic even for people not over weight, but especially for those over weight. The struggle with weight isn't only supported by 'sugar' and all kinds of fats in food to make a mindless person. We are 'addicts' of super-sizing bad habits that affect the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Our 'intake' of choices that do not affirm a positive, discerning, joyful, loving being must be controlled to be an evolving, superconscious human that the world so needs at this 'super shifting' moment like never before in life.
It comes down to replacing bad habits, and their consequences with good habits for more satisfaction and enjoyment. In this scenic, artsy, open minded town we are blessed with more organic farms than any other town of our small size of 9,500 people. Strangely, it is estimated that around almost 95% of residents here shop at the markets that push thousands of items regardless of their nutritional value. They are non discerning food factories that sell 'anything' with low concern for people's health and waistline. Our 'organic food co-op'? The rare obese visitor might just be from the 'bad nutrition snake oil supermarket' just working on changing their mind?
Most people are living without thinking and making the best choices in all parts of their lives. Deeper love, health, self image, enjoyment of life, and avoiding the pitfalls of non discerning thinking are worthwhile consequences of non following the crowd instead taking the high road!
