[www.keralites.net] Khatte-mitten khabhrain from around the world for 4/7/13

(Me: Who cares? Whatever is destined to happen will happen is our philosophy to cover up our lethargy, sloth and slovenliness)
**
Sex tape destroyed my faith in men, says Paris Hilton.
Socialite Paris Hilton admits she lost her faith in men after her then-boyfriend leaked a graphic sex tape to the world.
(Me: Why allow such tapes to be made in the first place and then repent at leisure – he couldn't have made it without her knowledge? Temptation will always be there for ordinary men to date big-time socialites to use such tapes for huge monetary windfalls or by blackmailing the leading ladies. It is dangerous to trust men so completely)

From the world of science…
No sign of HIV in 2 patients after marrow transplant.
Kuala Lumpur: Two HIV positive patients in the US who underwent bone marrow transplants for cancer have stopped anti-retroviral therapy and still how no detectable sign of the HIV virus, researchers said on Wednesday.
(Me: Bone marrow transplant and stem cell therapy look like miracle therapies of the modern era)

Plums are a rich source of vitamin A, calcium, iron, potassium and fibre.

Curcumin may protect premature infants' lungs..
Turmeric, a key ingredient in spicy curry dishes, has long been known to have medicinal values. Now new research finds a substance in turmeric, curcumin, may provide lasting protection against potentially deadly lung damage in premature infants.
(Me: Now Indian chauvinists will jump to the conclusion that American companies are trying to hijack our ayurveda, unani or whatever alternative therapies. One must remember turmeric is produced in several countries and we don't hold patents barring their production or research abroad; we have been using it since ages without knowing how exactly it is beneficial to our health. So we must give due credit to the Americans for their original research and the findings drawn.

Is belly fat dangerous with people of normal weight?
Even people of normal weight who have excess belly fat have 2.75 times the risk of cardiovascular death. Abdominal obesity doubles the risk of all-cause mortality. The fat that poses the greatest risk, called visceral fat, is found inside the abdominal cavity.
**
Palghar girl croones FB mania ordeal..
The girl associated with the Palghar controversy has cut an album on the Facebook mania.
(Me: I won't say more. Those interested for more info. on the case, may read TOI today's Mumbai edition)
Tongue in cheek…
The welfare state is not really about the welfare of the masses. It is about the egos of the elites." – Thomas Sowell.
Disadvantages of open-plan office.
What's an open-plan office – a single giant room where workers are seated in close quarters. Office workers complained that they had to put up with too many distractions. The study found that employees working in open-plan offices had difficulty in focusing which affected their productivity.
(Me: There are plus and minus points in every plan and interested parties give contradictory opinions/views, depending upon where their interests lay. And furniture manufacturers are laughing all the way to the bank…)
**
Men don't like their women wearing wedges..
American men find wedges to be the least attractive, followed by uggs, crocs and platforms.
(Me: These are kinds of footwear. From the survey, looks American men love women wearing stilettos!)

Mindchow
Patience is the companion of wisdom
**
"Human rights is the soul of our foreign policy, because human rights is the very soul of our sense of nationhood" – Jimmy Carter
(Me: What is good for the American goose not be so good for Indian gander. For example, if the Maoists – or others elsewhere - are running amok in India, it is largely due to the woolly-headedness of our Rights' activists. You cannot transplant or apply alien theories or ideas without taking into account local genius or realities. My comments apply to democracy as well)

Weird world…
Chinese pay Pounds sterling 2,000 a month for breast milk..
Wealthy Chinese are paying Pounds sterling 2,000 (about Rs.2 lakhs) a month for nurses to give them daily doses of human breast milk as a health food. Breast milk supplies are big business in China after the country was rocked by a scandal over baby milk formula.

Man thought burglary charges apply only at night.
Cleveland: A 22-year-opld man in Ohio, US, thought he could be charged with burglary only if he committed the crime at night. James B was arrested on felony burglary charges after he broke into his mother's house on June 12. The mother had apparently banned him from the home. He was found hiding under a crawlspace around 11 am. When officers informed him of his charges, he said: "I thought you could only be charged with burglary if you break in during the night time."
**
Tweet of the day: "Non-lubricated condoms are distributed among the armed forces not just for safe sex, but as an emergency water canteen."
**
Talking cigarette packs to help women cut down smoking.
Now, talking cigarette packets have been created to help women cut down smoking. This pack will speak every time the lid is opened and is out on a trial basis to see if it will convince people to give up addiction. The device has a recorded message which tells women that they could risk having fertility problems if they don't pack in the tobacco obsession.
**
Man to wife: "You should be glad I'm dull. All of the exciting guys are getting divorced!"
**
A Sunday school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year olds. After explaining the commandment to 'honor thy father and thy mother', she asked, 'is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?"
Without missing a beat one little boy answered, 'Thou shall not kill'.
**
Pun fun…
"First Nadal, then Federer, then Serena, it's been Wimbledown." – Bachi Karkaria..
**
"It is better to be violent, if there's violence in our hearts than to put the cloak of non-violence to cover impotence" - Mahatma Gandhi.
(We quote the Mahatma for anything and everything, but covering our impotence is all we are exhibiting all the time)
