Comics or Astrology, which one is more believable?
Comics revel in exaggeration and hyperbole and the tales they tell you are
to tickle your funny bones (and bring a smile on your face and make the
day), to liven up your sagging spirits or to convey a subtle moral message
that the good triumphs over the evil in the end or in other words crime does not pay so you don't take the path of evil and self-destruction.
Believers in astrology are a legion on the planet, chiefly for two
reasons:
1) no one can foresee into the future course of events and because one
cannot, curiosity gets the better of us and you die to know how you are going to live tomorrow or a week or a year hence and what the imponderable future holds for you.
2) Almost all men and women are in the midst of some difficult, sticky,
messy situation or the other, regardless of how severe or mild it is, and
anything that offers a palliative or solace is a good enough straw to
clutch on to. What could be better than the soothing balm, the ubiquitous forecast of your (good!) fortune, that our magazines, dailies and satellite channels dish out day in and day out reassuring you happy days are here again?
Now a 5-year-long survey of 15,000 avid followers of the daily forecast of their fortunes has conclusively proved that astrological predictions are
as much believable as the comic strips! Regardless of how accurate the
time of one's birth is, the stars cannot fashion your destiny or
their configuration on a given day foretell your future.
The tribe of fortune-tellers continues making hay - the sun seems to
shine through day and night for them! - and the gullible you and I play
for the suckers.
Looks, comic strips are a shade more believable coz. some of the cartoon
characters at least some way resemble the living.
However, these are my own views and you may believe it or not.
