Petrol hike and the great Indian queue

Late last evening the government announced that it was going to increase petrol price by Rs 6.28 per litre. Obviously the Indian public was outraged, shocked and angry as news was rather unexpected. But there was no time to waste cursing the government, the hike would be enforced at midnight, which meant there were very fews hours left. So began the great rush to petrol stations in nearly ever city. Traffic jams, harassed petrol pump attendants, chains to keep out the crowds of scooties, motorcyles, cars; it was madness all over as people rushed to get that last drop of cheap petrol.
