After the controversial book of sister Jasme, another former nun of Wynad, Sister Mary Chandy's book 'Nanma Niranjavale Swasthi', an autobiography in Malayalam would be released in the first week of May.
Sister Mary Chandy is not a writer, but her maiden book in Malayalam has become an instant hit and has created a storm even before the official release. 'Nanma Niranjavale Swasthi', the autobiography of the former nun from Daughters of Presentation of Mary in the Temple (DPM), a Catholic congregation, is all about the 'dark side' of the Church and the convents.
It was more than 12 years back that Sister Mary Chandy, who now runs an orphanage in Pulpally in Wayanad district, left the Convent and started her life on the spiritual path.
Quite often, the priests and nuns fail in the mission of service, feels the sister, who openly says that most of them are prone to the call of flesh.
And it is this revelation which makes her book, controversial. 'My book is an expression of the ordeals that I had passed through as a nun, and also the debauchery I witnessed in the convents,' says Sister Mary Chandy. It was the life there, which was more inclined towards lust than the spirituality, which made her leave the convents forever, she writes.
Those nuns who did not submit to the lustful moves of the priests were often targeted and their life was made a hell, says the former nun. In one chapter she even narrates how a priest tried to rape her and she escaped the attempt by hitting him with a stool. But there again she was branded a misfit for serving the church and the convent, she says uni
