[www.keralites.net] MELASMA

There are plenty of easy melasma home remedies that have been found to be effective combating the disease. Melasma is a tan or dark skin coloration. It is a cosmetic disease that can be treated in many ways. While sufferers of melasma can purchase over-the-counter melasma creams, there are common household items can do the job just as well. In fact, many dermatologists recommend home remedies over fading creams, especially those that use hydroquinone, a potential carcinogen. Home remedies featuring acidic mixtures using products such as vinegar, lemon juice or onions will often work in reducing or eliminating the appearance of melasma.

Its Probably in Your House Right Now
Apple cider vinegar, distilled white vinegar or other natural vinegars are especially effective in fighting melasma and improving skin complexion in general. Vinegar is 4% to 18% acetic acid, a mild acid that is capable of making the skin more radiant and smooth, as well as whitening and brightening complexion. Simply dilute the vinegar with equal parts water and use as a skin cleanser.

Other remedies include combining vinegar with lemon juice or onion juice for quick results. Both onion juice and lemon juice are naturally acidic and combined with the acetic acid of vinegar can be quite effective in eliminating melasma within a few weeks. To create the onion juice mixture, finely chop your onions. You can also blend it or throw it in a food processor to save time and energy. Strain the chopped onions through cheesecloth and mix it with equal parts apple cider vinegar. If you do not have cheesecloth, you can also use paper coffee filters, medical gauze or, if you are really in a pinch, a pair of pantyhose. After mixing the onion juice with the vinegar, apply twice daily with a cotton ball. For the truly adventurous, you can also slice up an onion, dip it in vinegar and lay it directly on the affected area. You can substitute lemon juice for onion juice in the mixture with similar results, as well a slightly better smelling concoction. You can also mix lemon juice with cucumber juice and wear it as a mask while you sleep, or simply rub your face with lemons before you jump in the shower.

Melasma Causes and Triggers
While most cases of melasma are caused by genetics or hormones, it is also thought that stress can be a contributing factor to the disease. The standard doctor's orders for de-stressing may help with melasma: plenty of exercise, a full night's sleep and a balanced diet all will improve your health in general and may aid in reducing your melasma outbreak.

Home remedies for dealing with melasma are cheaper, equally effective and often safer than over-the-counter alternatives. If you have melasma, it is recommended that you try these home remedies before running off to the drug store. If you try one or more of these methods, you will have the piece of mind of knowing the ingredients that you are putting on your body. Vinegar, onions and lemons are all simple melasma home remedies that could have you on the path to healthy skin in a matter of weeks.
