Re: [www.keralites.net] GAYATRI MANTRA the Best Divine Prayer Hymn in the World

Mr. Shivaram,

I do not claim anything anywhere.  Nor do I feel elated saying that I am an Iyer.  I was born an Iyer and the name will remain with me.

I consider keralites.net a free forum for discussing things with an open mind. Instead of putting forward your learned and considered views on the subject, you get frustrated by cogent and compelling arguments put forward here. Finally you lose your own equanimity and start writing hate mails.  Anybody can make out from the language and tone of your mail that it is you who is frustrated and not me.  I have not written anything personal against anyone.  I am writing my view points.  I would suggest, instead of attacking anyone at personal level, you put forward your arguments.

I also need not prove whether I am an Iyer or not.  Yes, I recite Gayatri even now but that does not mean I will wholeheartedly support and follow the mumbojumbo of people who say Ohm is primordial sound or Gayatri waves travel at 110,000 cycles/sec.  Brahmans were held in high esteem because of their gyan. Recent writings in this forum about Hinduism, Gayatri etc are too far fetched and shows lack of real gyan.  As a person who is familiar with Hinduism, I too write my views.

Let me come to why I chant Gayatri.  As I have already indicated in my previous mail, I was initiated into the ritual when I was 7.  I may not find anything extraordinary in reciting Gayatri.  But I do not lose anything by reciting it.  It has become a part of me.  If somebody says whatever I have attained in life is because of the gift of Gayatri, I would definitely not agree.  I am a human being first and then a Brahman, Hindu or whatever. In my childhood, Poonal (Janayu) was termed as "oonu nool" (meal ticket) by many non-brahmins.  It was demeaning in every respect but my fellow brahmins never paid any heed to such utterances.  Whether in temples, birth ceremonies or death ceremonies, brahmins would claim their share both in cash and kind.  I am not part of that group.  For my survival I do not spread misinformation and try to put the fear of God in hapless people. My belief is with me and I do not wear it on my forehead, upper arms or chest.  Finally I am not a well-frog.  I am a small fish in the vast ocean and I survive by the dint of my own efforts even at this age (65 years).

I do not know what you are, what is your age etc.  You cannot take Hinduism to greater heights by showing hatred.  If Hinduism stood the test of time, it was just because of the spirit of accommodation the religion teaches.  Chanakya, according to me, was an aberration and his type of diplomacy suited only the strife ridden time then. As for Brahmanism and its parochial outlook now, I am afraid , the movement is losing its steam faster than ever.  They need course correction and urgently too.

With good wishes to you and your ilk.

Sincerely,

H. Padmanabhan Iyer

Dear Mr. Iyer

First of all, reading ur mail makes me think that, u r not whom u claim to be. And if at all u r, whom u claim to be, then short to say that ur mail shows ur frustration and hypocrisy. Frustration on ur community.
And calling urself by the tag of Iyer shows that u want to project urself as some higher community. U will understand ur culture only if u whole heatedly try to know it in-depth. If u have not gained anything out of chanting the mantra then y r u still doing it. I'm surprised u ve been doing it for so many years.

Be selfless and surrender to the lowest....And then u will realize ur true might, ur true goal and ur mind will open up to see all that u ve missed in ur entire life.
Life is beautiful and realistic to only those who have understood it. All others live in Maya and call it development.

Friends,

I am a Brahmin and have been reciting Gayatri for the last 58 years.  I have not found anything divine about it.  During my childhood ladies were prohibited from chanting Gayatri (you all know why).  A Brahmin enters his second birth after the thread (Janayu) ceremony and starts reciting Gayatri thereafter. Having recited the Gayatri for all these years have I attained anything special? Definitely not. Every religion has its own sacred scripture.  For a Hindu the number of scriptures are numerous.  Vedas were not authored by anyone or at one period.  They are known as "Apauraseya" (authorless).  Hindus claim that the texts were authored by the Gods.  Hinduism also claims that there are 330 million Gods. Hinduism also says that there is no difference between the God and His Creations (Aham Brahmasmi).  By natural corollary anything written by man also becomes divine.

Followers of my religion also claim that Sanskrit is the language of Gods.  I wonder why would Gods need a language specifically to communicate with a section of his creations, i.e. humans.  His creations include multitude of flora, fauna, marine life forms and a plethora of micro organisms.  God being God must naturally be communicating with these life forms too. What is the language? Sanskrit? May be.

Whether in African jungles with shamans practicing hoodoo or Indian subcontinent with Brahmins reciting Gayatri Mantra, there have always been a class proclaiming to possess mysterious powers.  When their bastion was shaken, they have come out in force warning of dire consequences.  The present time is no different.  We are in the midst of a Hindu resurrection. Sanskrit like Brahmanism is on the verge of extinction.  In the last 100 years alone man has acquired tremendous amount of knowledge.  Look around and you will see that man's creations have outpaced the creations of the Divine Force.  Some people may say the progress is more destructive than creative but that is a matter of opinion. What I  wish to say here is that we do not need Sanskrit to reinvent ourselves.  It was a language of the elite/privileged then and now the number has come down drastically.

With good wishes to you all.

Xaveir,

For you Gayatri Mantra can be nonsense, but for me it is Sacred. All the Hindus believe or may not believe  , but I believe.I don't comment on the mails posted by others and it is only you comment on the mails posted by others.Religion and politics is not my subject and most of my mails are related to health matters. In that also, we can see dispute between Allopathy, Ayurveda, Nature cure , Homeopoathy etc.Like religion, they will also not agree with each other. We can see hox mails in that category also viz Lemon is 10000 times more powerful than chemotherapy, Chellation Theray Therapy to avoid Heart Operation etc.Religion and Medical science are always contradictory

Hegde,

What mandate do you have to use the term 'we Hindus' as if you represent all the Hindus of the world. I dont think even 10% of the Hindus of the world recite the Gayathri. You have also written that it is a personal thing. If so you should keep such nonsense personal. The moment you post it on a forum like ours you have to be ready to defend your stand with evidence i and not with sermons f criticized. It is you who started this discussion about the Gayathri nonsense

Dear Mr.Mohd,

It is true that the name of that the name of The American Scientist is  wrongly mentioned in this mail, but The Gayatri Mantra is sacred and We , Hindus don't need American Scientist to explain the significance of Gayatri Mantra.Gayatri Mantra is sacred for all the Hindus and not only for R.S.S. It is like novena  or any kind prayer of other religions. All of us believe on faith and no scientist can prove or  deny it.and in all the religions, you can see difference of opinions, within the same religion or by others of different community, viz, Christians vs Protestants, Shia vs Sunni.I am not a agent of R.S.S  or any political party.

Even in Medical science there are difference of opinion in Allopathy, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Unani etc and they don't agree each other and work  on different principles. It is up to the people to see the good and bad in the religion and in medicines  and come to the conclusion on their own. That American Scientist never done in Gayatri Mantra, but it it is the belief of Hindus , which needs no research report by him.

If you write to Proffessor Narendra Nayak, who is my client, he will tell you that there is no God and everything on this earth is false and all the religions are false.Hence there is no end for all these comments.

Gayatri Mantra the Best Divine Prayer Hymn in the World

SAID AMERICAN SCIENTISTDr.HOWARD STEINGERIL
Dr. Howard Steingeril, an American scientist, collected Mantras, Hymns and invocations from all over the world and from all religions, tested their strength in his Physiology Laboratory. He concluded that the Hindus Vedic Gayatri Mantra is the most rewarding scientifically. That the Gayatri Mantra produced 110,000 sound waves per second. This was the highest and found it to be the most powerful prayer hymn in the world. That the combination of sound and variation in the sound waves and its particular frequency is capable of developing specific spiritual potentialities.
The Hamburg university initiated this research into the efficacy of the Gayathri Mantra both on the mental and physical plane of CREATION. The GAYATHRI MANTRA is now being broadcast daily for 15 minutes from7 P.M. onwards over Radio Paramaribo, Surinam, South America for the past two years, and also in Amsterdam, Holland for the last six months.
