[www.keralites.net] Mystification of the soul

Mystification of Soul

The urge to convert everything into a mystery and mystifying and keeping it beyond reason, has been the bane, which itself has been converted into a strength by most religions. The privilege of assertion without the need to offer reasonable explanation and then donning the Godly authority has become the right of religions. In the name of religion simple fantasies have been woven as folklore and often destructive prejudices get shelter under this cover.

On the other hand science is getting bogged down in Newtonism, the concept of the machine and bureaucratised systematization. After the advent of quantum Physics and also the Relativity Physics, the need to continuously re-re-re...define definitions or to actually keep pace perception with the continuous changes, is drawing most scientists towards mysticism.

Even if one develops an elegant mathematical strings theory, or the loops quantum gravity theory or make advances in the 'M.theory Family', as M Theory is not one theory, the mystery of creation would remain, unless the central point for solution, the riddle of consciousness is solved. Technological gymnastics based on mathematical hypothetical adventurism will not really solve anything and will take us nowhere. Can one really conceptualise a one dimensional brane or membrane with which the strings theory started? Modern science today is indulging in mathematical fantasy and that fantasy is being used to fleshen the subsequent empirical findings in the other sciences; especially Physics. Mystification is becoming part of scientific research.

Let us attempt to wade into the central subject---consciousness and its offshoot—the soul. There was a time when the pre human organism did not have the analytical mind. The capacity to smell and perceive while breathing, was the main characteristic of that organism. The organism could distinguish among 10000 different smells and thus perceive. Perception, breathing and the resultant life activities were integrated. No two organisms could perceive differently because all lived under or in the same atmosphere. Thought was common thought or environmental thought. The human organism then could not adopt the unbiased detachment to perceive and analyze. It had to participate with the air and interact as an integral link in the biosphere. All ecosphere must have had a common consciousness or a common soul. Birth and death must have been the main characteristics of this gigantic soul.

Realising this central place of breathing in perception and the immediate emotional reflex action, our sages concentrated on Pranayama or breathe-control for thought control. All yoga and the related activity like concentration, meditation, and trance...are actually extensions of Pranayama. Thinking was feeling and living, in the shape of breathing which also was perceiving. Soul was then the common atmosphere directing the perception cum living. Most important there simply was no deception as there was no analytical cortex, or brain.

May be the study of birth and death must be made a part of the study of the environment and atmosphere, as the outcome of the rhythm between the lithosphere, hydrosphere, troposphere and biosphere all coming under the ecosphere and leading to the sphere of the soul called –The Noosphere.
