RE: [www.keralites.net] Negative vote

I have stated from the news quoting the letter from the Principal Secretary of the Election Commission. The negative votes will have only academic value as of now and will not affect the elections at all.
The provisions as stated by Mr. Nair are the ideal ones, but under the present election laws, it cannot be done and as none of the political parties including the ruling ones are not interested , the required  amendments to the law are not expected to come in the near future

It is not like that.  There should be an additional clause that if the NOTA receive majority votes, the polling will have to be cancelled and there should be re-election, when none of the previous candidates should be permitted to participate.
That was the final deal.  What was ultimately accepted and what will be put in practice is to be seen.

Dear All

It was in news a few days back that the Supreme Court has allowed the introduction of negative votes in the elections and every one was rejoicing.  Now the Election Commission has issued the procedures for  recording negative voting by r introducing a button after all the candidates names one button for "none of the above".

So far good, but what is the end result of having this button. A big "NOTHING", even  if majority of the votes goes for "None of the above", the candidate who gets the  maximum votes will be declared as elected. That is, the constituency will be represented by a person, whom majority of the voters have rejected. What is the use of such a negative vote?
