[www.keralites.net] NRI (non-resident Indian) customers carrying rupees exceeding Rs. 7,500.00

 

The UAE Central Bank has asked banks and money exchange houses in the country to advise their NRI (non-resident Indian) customers against carrying rupees while travelling to India not exceeding an amount of Rs. 7,500.00 applicable for Indian Citizens and foreign travelers to India are strictly prohibited from brining cash Indian currency into India (the related UAE Central Bank Circular is attached for your information)
But vide  RBI circular  RBI/2013-14/233  AP(DIR Series) Circular No. 39, RBI clarifies that,
Any person Resident in India:
i) may take outside India (other than to Nepal and Bhutan) currency notes of Government of India and Reserve Bank of India notes up to an amount not exceeding Rs.10,000 (Rupees ten thousand only) per person; and
ii) who had gone out of India on a temporary visit, may bring into India at the time of his return from any place outside India (other than from Nepal and Bhutan), currency notes of Government of India and Reserve Bank of India notes up to an amount not exceeding Rs.10,000 (Rupees ten thousand only) per person.
