Quote of the day:
"Whether Congress adopted any other policy of the British or not, they at least adopted their divide and rule police" – Rajnath Singh, BJP President.
(As a wag put it, the British divided the country only between two communities, but our 'leaders' have divided the country into 30.. the number of linguistic states..)

Before marriage, a man yearns for the woman he loves.
After marriage, the 'Y' becomes silent.

Tongue in cheek…
"I'm writing a book. I've got the page numbers done" - Steven Wright.

I can hear music coming out of my printer. I think the paper's jammin' again!

News of the day…
Gratitude levels down, say 60% of teachers.
Some 60% of the teachers in India believe there has been a dip in the gratitude levels of children over the past 10 years: Survey.
(Me: conscientious levels of the teachers are down, too; they go on strikes – more like blackmail - at the most critical hour – exam time - to press their demand for pay n perk hikes and other benefits. Why blame the pupils alone?)

From the world of science…
The citric acid in lemon and other fruits can erode tooth enamel. Rinse your mouth after eating them.

Heading to the pool to beat the heat? Wet your hair well before entering the water to prevent the chlorine from damaging your tresses.

Tiny Seychelles frog hears with its mouth…
The tiny Gardiner's frog – one of the smallest frogs in the world – once believed to be deaf, actually hears sounds through its mouth.

Potential epilepsy drug discovered using zebrafish.
An antihistamine discovered in the 1950s to treat itching may also prevent seizures in an intractable form of childhood epilepsy, according to researchers at University of California who tested it in zebrafish bred to mimic the disease.

What food is most associated with longevity?
Eating nuts five or more times a week reduces risk of heart disease by a whopping 60%. In addition, people who eat more nuts are generally thinner. Nuts are even linked to lower cancer rates. Eating nuts is one of the top four factors for extending longevity.
(Me: So? Go nuts!)

Pun fun..
Tianna: Hey! What do you call an oyster that won't share anything with anyone?
Tessy: I don't know. What would you call it?
Tianna: Simple. A selfish Shellfish!

Believe it a lot!
Deer drunk on rotten apples stop man from entering home…
Stockholm: A man returned home to find five drunk elk blocking him from entering his own house in Ingaro, an island in Stockholm suburbs. The four adult elk and a calf had gotten drunk from eating rotten apples in his garden. The man called police, but the animals left before they arrived. Officers then instructed the homeowner to clear his garden of fermented applies in order to avoid any future incidents. An officer said the man had no option but to call authorities. "They can be really dangerous. They become fearless and instead of backing away when a person approaches, they move towards you," he said.

64-year-old swims from Cuba to Florida…
Key West: Defeated before in bids o swim from Cuba to Florida, Diana Nyad would cry and rage through swollen lips and welts at the jellyfish tentacles that had repeatedly lashed her and derailed her plans to become the first swimmer to make the 110-mile crossing without a shark cage. Her lips were swollen Monday, as in the past, when she emerged from the waters off Key West, but the 64-year-ld American endurance swimmer managed a tight smile for supporters and said word, "Seawater." And this time, she was victorious.

Think it over…
"Racism is still with us. But it is up to us to prepare our children for what they have to meet, and, hopefully, we shall overcome" – Rosa Parks.
(Me: We in India seem to abhor racism – eg. once called Apartheid in South Africa – when it is noticed in a few stray cases involving Indians or others in foreign lands. Our casteism, regionalism and linguistic chauvinism are a lot worse because it's practiced among our own citizens)
