The importance of Sheshan in Indian history is that he made people of India knew there is a constitutional institution called Election Commission of India which was earlier mistakenly considered as an office controlled by some ministry in Delhi; a poppet organization in the hands of the central government. His legacy is continued by others and today all corrupt parties are afraid of election commission for reporting election expenditure, declaration of wealth by candidates, criminal activities on election day, mere promises after the declaration of election, etc.
Some people don't like him due to his tough stand toward political parties; especially congress. The Congress party declared him as their arch enemy. They went ahead with a lot propaganda against him after his retirement.
Now it was his personal choice to join political party which was approved by the same election commission of India; once he was retired from the duty. As a free man, he had all the rights to do so. But his choice of politics made him unacceptable to some members of minority communities. It is up to someone to accept it or disagree as far as his opinions are concerned, but no one can dictate a person on what he should do or what he should believe.

I repeat what I said about Seshan and stand by it. If you want to know a sample about about his morality and fight against corruption you file an application under RTI regarding the number of items of Govt. property hetook home when he left the office. There were 75 items including laptops. He refused to return them and Gill the next CEC was gracious enough to write them off. You want such a person to fight corruption??????. There are scores ofof similar cases, which I cannot narrate in public now.
If he was so good and people liked him how he lost his deposit when he contested against Advani? Why there was only Shiv Sena to support him when he contested Presidential elections.
During his tenure, everyone in the Commission was frustrated and I managed to get out and join an international organisation where I served for the rest of my service.T.Mathew

Now there is an excuse or pretext to close down KSRTC; before it dies the natural death. Here is a chance to get rid of the White elephant:- - Slowly sell out buses to private parties where schedules are cancelled. -Sell out progressively the workshop facilities to private. -KSRTC manage the bus stands, for which they can charge fees from private buses. -VRS or absorb the staff in other departments. - Govt. can continue to control ticket fares and enforce traffic safety measures. Let us hope and pray.

Having worked with him in the Election Commission of India, I can say that what ever he preached about morality was for others. During his time he made a lot of noise to the extent that Supreme Court asked him to keep his mouth shut. Till Seshan's time the judiciary was considerate to the Election Commission and Commission never lost a case in the court, but during his time the decisions in most of the cases were against the Commission, because he had no respect for the laws and rules.He was appreciated by the public since was shouting against the politicians every time he got a chance. He was against Electronic Voting machines, which we are using in all the elections now, because it was not his brain child.As people in Delhi know him well, no one wants to touch him even with a long stick

In addition to what have been said, I remember reading decades back ( I think Mr Malayattur was at the top KSRTC and first time in its history KSRTC made profit) that there is a advisory board comprising of about Plus 200 members. This commitee also contributed for the continued annual loss and KSRT Chave14 labour unions.Mr.Malayattur a staunch communist in mind and thoughts tried his level best to reign this unions for the good of common man /Govt of kerala/ KSRTC staff and to KSRTC but failed. I think he was removed from the post within a short period.Balakrishna pillai's comment on KSRTC is wrong. KSRTC still can be brought to profit provided it is dealt in a professional way. 'ആരു വിചാരിച്ചാലും കെഎസ്ആര്ടിസി ഇനി രക്ഷപ്പെടില്ല. ഓയില് കമ്പനികളെ സഹായിക്കുന്ന നിലപാടാണ് സര്ക്കാരിന്റേത്. വന്സാമ്പത്തിക ബാധ്യത ഉണ്ടാക്കി വച്ചിട്ട് ന്യായം പറയുന്നതില് അര്ത്ഥമില്ല. തന്റേടമുള്ള ഭരണാധികാരികളാണെങ്കില് കെഎസ്ആര്ടിസിക്ക് ഇന്നത്തെ പ്രതിസന്ധി ഉണ്ടാകില്ലായിരുന്നു." നിര്ഭാഗ്യവശാല് തന്റേടമുള്ള ഭരണാധികാരികള് നമുക്കുണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. തന്റേടം, അഹങ്കാരം തുടങ്ങിയവയെല്ലാം മലയാളി മുളയിലേ നുള്ളിക്കളയുന്ന ദുശ്ശീലങ്ങളാണ്.കര്ണാടകവും തമിഴ്നാടും ലാഭകരമായി സര്ക്കാര് ബസ് സര്വീസ് നടത്തുന്ന ഇന്ത്യയില് തന്നെയാണ് മിക്കവാറും എല്ലാ നഗരങ്ങളിലും കണ്ണായ സ്ഥലത്ത് ഏക്കറു കണക്കിനു ഭൂമിയുള്ള കെഎസ്ആര്ടിസി പട്ടിണി കിടക്കുന്നത്. തന്റേടമുള്ള ഭരണാധികാരികളല്ല, തന്റേടമുള്ള ജീവനക്കാരാണ് കെഎസ്ആര്ടിസി ഭരിക്കുന്നത്. മാധ്യമങ്ങളിലൂടെ വോട്ടുബാങ്കിനെ പോസിറ്റീവായി സ്വാധീനിക്കുന്ന പ്രസ്താവനകള് നടത്തുന്നതില് ശ്രദ്ധ കേന്ദ്രീകരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ഭരണാധികാരികളില് നിന്നും യഥാര്ഥപ്രശ്നം ഉള്ക്കൊണ്ടുകൊണ്ടുള്ള ഏതെങ്കിലും നീക്കം ഉണ്ടാവുമെന്നു പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നതില് അര്ഥമില്ല. ഒറ്റ ഷെഡ്യൂള് പോലും വെട്ടിക്കുറയ്ക്കില്ല എന്നു മന്ത്രി പറഞ്ഞെങ്കിലും അനുദിനം വെട്ടിക്കുറച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ഷെഡ്യൂളുകളുടെ എണ്ണം വര്ധിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുകയാണ്. മെല്ലെ മെല്ലെ കെഎസ്ആര്ടിസി എന്നത് ഒരു ഓര്മ മാത്രമാവും. അതിലൊന്നും നമ്മുടെ ഭരണാധികാരികള്ക്ക് ഒരു വേദനയുമുണ്ടാവില്ല. അതിന്റെ ഉത്തരവാദിത്വം ആരിലാണ് വീഴുക എന്നതില് മാത്രമാണ് അവരുടെ ആശങ്ക. സുപ്രീം കോടതി, എണ്ണക്കമ്പനികള്, കേന്ദ്രസര്ക്കാര് എന്നിവരാണ് ഈ ദുരന്തത്തിനു കാരണമെന്ന് ജനങ്ങള് വിശ്വസിക്കുമെങ്കില്, കേരള സര്ക്കാര് പരമാധി ശ്രമിച്ചിട്ടും നീതി ലഭിച്ചില്ല എന്നു സമ്മതിക്കുമെങ്കില് ബസുകമ്പനി നിര്ത്താന് സര്ക്കാരിനു സന്തോഷമേയുണ്ടാവൂ. വോട്ടു രാഷ്ട്രീയം ചര്ച്ച ചെയ്യുമ്പോള് വീണ്ടും ടിപി കേസ്, സോളാര് കേസ്, ലാവ്ലിന് കേസ്, ഐസ്ക്രീം കേസ് ഫോര്മുലയിലേക്കു നമ്മള് മടങ്ങിവരണമെന്നു മാത്രം.ഒലത്തും!:നേരേ ചൊവ്വേ ബസ് സര്വീസ് പോലും നടത്താന് കഴിയാത്ത നമ്മളാണ് ഇവിടെ വിമാനക്കമ്പനി നടത്താന് പോകുന്നത്.
