Child prodigy Sushma on the road to reaching her dreams after she gets first class marks in her BSc exam.

It's no small feat for any student to score first class in their graduation exams, let alone for a 13-year-old girl. But Sushma Verma, a child prodigy from Lucknow, has just proved nothing is impossible for her by scoring 66 per cent in her BSc exam.

She now wants to pursue MSc, Bio-Technology.

The daughter of a daily wage labourer, Sushma is preparing to become a doctor or a scientist.

"I wanted to join the MBBS course. But I cannot do it before I am 17 years old. So I will join the MSc course in Lucknow University," she said.

Anita Ratra, principal of St Miraj Inter College, from where Sushma did her schooling, said: "She completed her Class X when she was seven and XII when she was nine. When she was in Class VII, we realised that she used to learn and memorise anything much quicker than any other child in the school. So we promoted her to a higher class."

Sushma's brother, Shailendra, is equally brilliant, their parents say. He never attended school but taught himself at home to clear Class X from the National Open School when he was seven years old scoring 55 per cent marks.

Father Tej Bahadur and mother Chhaya Devi work as daily wage labourers and hope that the government will help keep both their children in India. "I hope the government helps our children so they can remain in India.

Some members of foreign universities are in touch with us and would like us to send our children to pursue their dream there," Chhaya Devi said. Living in a dilapidated single room in Barigawan area in Lucknow, Sushma's father, a Class VIII drop out, says he is one of the luckiest fathers alive even when he often does not get a square meal.
