Dear all,
We have to see the both sides of the coin.
So what is the exit route from this MNC induced consumerism? A closed economy like erstwhile USSR? Or a socialist Utopian path envisaged by Indira in the 60's and 70's?, where Marathi cars And telephones allotted to MP's and their cohorts through Quota system, a quota for production of cloths? A quota for production of plastic buckets, pens etc etc.
I remember my school days with just one company for pen, ie Reynolds, and Hero fountain pen for the elites in my class.
In this forum, majority are non residents of India, who seldom accept the ground reality and enjoy all the best things a free enterprise capitalistic society could offer, still they opt for a closed system back home.
Brothers! our Indian system post liberalisation made the majority to afford the luxuries enjoyed by the upper class earlier. The class facilities of electricity, transportation and telecommunication has became mass now.
But still we have shortfalls in our expectation, which can be easily addressed with the liberalisation of capital flow and seeping-down wealth model of capitalism, which is the most successful and pragmatic model from history and present, through the experience of the developed world barring some periodic hiccups. We don't want the support of archaic ideology of 20th century envisaged by jinto.
Regarding masvlcy's concern for food adulteration, was this a new phenomena? It has been practising for decades in india. Only now the liberalised, hence proactive media come forward for exposing the same. Since our judiciary and executive haven't grown too much from the beurocratic hangover of the socialist era, we don't have a quick fix in our democracy.
The only solution here is open up the retail sector. The international standards adopted by foreign mass retailers would be a new experience and the adulterator/manipulators have no option, either to change for good or to quit. The WHO standards in fruits an vegetable cultivation by MNC's would surely stop Indians, particularly keralites from having daily dose of poison from the dinner-table.
Remember.
We are pioneers in IT with introduction of foreign technology post liberalisation.
Our poverty level went down to 26 pc from 48 pc post liberalisation
Our telecommunication thrives in foreign technology.
Our mass media thrived from technology and expertise of foreigners.
Our transportation is world class with foreign technology.
We are pioneers in production of vehicles from the import of technology.
It's only a few. List goes long an long.
I challenge you, to show me a sector in India which does not have an insignia of foreign technology. It's import is inevitable as we have waited for 40 years since independence for a miracle to happen believing in the socialist utopia of self sufficiency.

Dear Jinto and Hari,The think is good. That is why Indira Gandhi used it in their 20 programs. But they were discouraged and not allowed to enter foreign makers to Indian market too. This was started by Rajive Gandi by giving permission for Maruthi Suzuki (i think so).The thought is good, but why we the normal people struggle to make our Indian economy stronger. If the ruling govt giving permission for all traders to sell their product in India then why we people have to struggle. If they not allowing these brands to enter to India then people will not buy, also Govt can give training and support to sole Indian manufactures to produce purely Indian items that can beat foreign brands. Main thing is these foreign brand manufacturers using our facilities and raw materials to produce these brands and selling in our market and taking our money to their home.Main problem for all these is the ruined political situation, who give their mother too to others if they get money. What a country is this i don't know. Every where bribe and scam. From local village office to President's office everywhere and everybody needs money, everybody keeping quiet when saying about scams. A Gandhi should come to start a second Independence war in India to kill all there politician dogs and to save our India from them. Finally, nobody can trust a product that made in India especially food items. We fearing to buy items from local market, in everything there is Addition (mayam). I read yesterday in news there are milk factories in Tamil nadu and Karnataka without having a single cow in their farm. They producing it by adding different chemicals which is very harmful to users, but they doesn't care, they need money and getting permission from govt by bribing. In coriander power they adding Dow and in salt they adding glass and in turmeric power they adding wood powder, in chilly power they adding mud and brick power so and so and so, no edible oils can be purchased in India all have mineral oil mixed (mineral oil = smell less kerosene a petrochemical product).Yes we can buy mobile connections, blades toothbrushes etc of indian made which may note harm our body and life.
Rgds

But I had a suggestion that if you want the common man to follow it, it seems that the media including the movies should promote the below mentioned since those have a huge influence on Indian mass. Afteral the KFC, McDonalds etc had a big impact on Indian mass after it had featured in movies as part of lifestyle of the rich people and though vast advertisements. I appreciate the below article as the first step towards the goal of stable Indian economy.Best regardsHarry
