[www.keralites.net] Sure Steps to a Brighter Life

By: Guy Finley

"In the long run, our attitude towards life's lessons - and the direction our life takes in life - are one and the same; show me someone who resists the Light of Life's correction in the course of his or her soul, and I will show you someone whose destiny is the darkness of total self-enclosure."

Even though the Truth is never further away from us than our wish for its awakening and self-healing insight, there are distinct moments in life when it comes closer to us than others. Unfortunately, almost all of these important, potentially life-changing moments are entirely missed because what is wrong with us, our false nature, always sees Truth as an attacking enemy. Let me show you what I mean so that the next time Truth makes an unexpected appearance in your life you will recognize it for what it is -- a friendly and beneficial force that is on your side. Permitting the Truth to do what it is intended to do will permit you to be what you want to be -- which is happy.

Never are the healing powers of the Truth so close by as when a crisis is at hand. A crisis always precedes any real inner-advancement because real spiritual growth is a process of removing self-blocking thoughts and feelings. The reason a crisis must precede each new level of authentic self-unity is that the crisis, whatever it may be, points out where we have been holding onto a particular belief, a shaky pretense, or some flattering but deceptive self-image that is in conflict with reality. Where there is conflict there is always pain; and by the time this unconscious kind of psychological or emotional pain reaches the level of our consciousness, we generally experience it as some kind of a crisis. This explains why a crisis is a close encounter of the truthful kind. The previously invisible internal conflict, which is always at the root of any personal crisis, is now temporarily visible. We can say this in another way. A crisis arises when some inner-lie we have unconsciously been telling ourselves is about to surface and be seen as a lie. Let's take an example or two.

Maybe a man pictures himself as always being in control of his own life, but now he's suddenly aware that he can't stop drinking -- or talking -- or endlessly worrying. He has reached a turning point.

A woman has always thought of herself as being loving and kind, but all at once she begins to notice how critical and cruel her thoughts are towards others. She sees she only does things for others to have them think of her as being kind, and this fills her day with resentments. She has reached a turning point.

In both instances, where the terrible cost of living from lying but flattering self-images has suddenly become conscious, the only alternative that the false self has, as the author of these self-deceptive lies, is to start blaming everyone and everything for the unhappy circumstances. This system of self-subterfuge is almost fail-safe for the false self. By seeing to it that everything outside of it is constantly laid to blame, it keeps you fighting with life instead of learning from it. It is really very cunning. The more you take the side of defending what is wrong in you, the more the Truth that exposed the unconscious wrongness appears to be against you.

The Truth never causes pain. The only pain in a crisis is the false self's resistance to the Truth. A crisis only becomes a breaking point when we fail to use it as a turning point. In order to transform a crisis into a personal turning point in your life, you must wish to be shown the lesson in the crisis rather than allow yourself to be convinced by it that the world is against you. This Higher Wish, followed by your willingness to endure a new kind of pain, gives birth to a Higher Consciousness in you that belongs to your True Nature. This Elevated Consciousness never has to solve a crisis because it never has one in the first place.

"In the long run, our attitude towards life's lessons - and the direction our life takes in life - are one and the same; show me someone who resists the Light of Life's correction in the course of his or her soul, and I will show you someone whose destiny is the darkness of total self-enclosure."

[www.keralites.net] Story: The Millionaire and the 3 Person

There was a good-natured millionaire in the town. Three beggars thought of approaching him for help.
The first man went to the millionaire and said: "O Boss! I want five rupees. Please give me." The millionaire was taken aback at this man's impudence. "What! You demand five rupees from me as though I owe you the money! How dare you? How can I afford to give five rupees to a single beggar? Here, take these two rupees and get away," he said. The man went away with the two rupees.

The next beggar went to the millionaire and said: "Oh Boss! I have not taken a square meal for the past ten days. Please help me."
"How much do you want?" asked the millionaire.
"Whatever you give me," replied the beggar.
"Here, take this ten rupee note. You can have nice food for at least three days." The beggar walked away with the ten rupee note.

The third beggar came. "Oh Boss, I have heard about your noble qualities. Therefore, I have come to see you. Men of such charitable disposition are verily the manifestations of God on earth," he said.
"Please sit down," said the millionaire. "You appear to be tired. Please take this food," he said, and offered food to the beggar.
"Now please tell me what I can do for you."
"Oh Boss," replied the beggar; "I merely came to meet such a noble personage that you are. You have given me this rich food already. What more need I get from you? You have already shown extraordinary kindness towards me. May God bless you!"
But the millionaire, struck by the beggar's spirit, begged of the beggar to remain with him, built a decent house for him in his own compound, and looked after him for the rest of his life.

Just like this story three classes of people approach God, with three different desires and prayers. There is the greedy man full of vanity, full of arrogance, full of desires. He demands the objects of worldly enjoyment from God. Since this man, whatever be his vile desires, has had the good sense to approach God, He grants him some part of the desired objects (even these very soon pass away, just as the two rupees the first beggar got are spent before nightfall).

The other type of devotee prays to the Lord for relief from the sufferings of the world, but is better than the first one, in as much as he is ready to abide by His Will. To him the Lord grants full relief from suffering, and bestows on him much wealth and property.

The third type he merely prays to the Lord: "O Lord, Thou art Existence-Absolute, Knowledge-Absolute, Bliss-Absolute, etc., etc." What does he want? Nothing. But the Lord is highly pleased with his spirit of renunciation, of desirelessness and of self-surrender. Therefore, He makes him eat His own food, I.e., He grants this man Supreme Devotion to Himself. Over and above this, He makes the devotee to live in His own House For ever afterwards this devotee dwells in the Lord's Abode as a Liberated Sag

How to Prevent Yourself from a Fall, Trip, or Slip ~ just in case ...

Good Advice.
Increased Risk of Fall Accident Begins at Age 40.
By: Junji Takano
One of the main health concerns of elderly people is falling, which is often related to poor balance.
In fact, many studies show that people begin to have balance problems starting at the age of 40 years.
The older you get, the weaker your physical body and sensory abilities will be, which are all factors in having poor balance.

Falling Accidents

In Japan, more than 7,000 people a year die from falling accidents, which already exceeds the number of traffic accidents.
In this article, we'll examine in more details the cause of falling and why you lose balance as you age.
## Test Your Balance by Standing on One Leg
You can determine how good your balance is by measuring the length of time that you can stand on one leg
.

How to Stand on One Leg

The following table shows the average balance time by age group in a study conducted at a Japanese health institute.
Average time with eyes open
20-39 years old: 110 seconds
40-49: 64 seconds
50-59: 36 seconds
60-69: 25 seconds
Average time with eyes closed
20-39 years old: 12 seconds
40-49: 7 seconds
50-59: 5 seconds
60-69: less than 3 seconds

If your balance time is below average, then you'll have higher risk of falls, or slipping and tripping accidents.
In the above study, women tend to lose their balance more than men but only by a small margin (1-2%).
From this study, it is also evident that there's a sudden significant decrease in the ability to maintain balance among middle-aged people (40 years and above).
Please take note that the numbers stated above are only average.
There are people who were able to maintain balance much longer, and there are also those who were only able to maintain their balance at much shorter time regardless of age and gender.
The reason why they vary is explained further below.
## The Soles of Your Feet Have Sensors
The skins all throughout your body have significant amount of tiny pressure sensors or mechanoreceptors.
Some areas have few pressure sensors, while other areas have thousands, like on the soles of your feet.

Pressure Sensors or Mechanoreceptors on the soles of the feet

The pressure sensors on the foot soles provide information to your brain to help balance your body.
As you get older, the sensors will get weaker and your foot sole lose sensitivity.
But there are also other factors that can lead to weaker pressure sensors.
## Poor Blood Circulation Can Disrupt the Pressure Sensors
In our study, people are almost twice as likely to be in a fall accident caused by poor blood circulation.
This can be simulated by soaking your feet into ice cold water for about 3 minutes.
Because of the cold temperature, the pressure sensors on the foot sole begin to lose sensitivity.
# Pay Attention to Your Forward-Moving Foot
If your forward-moving foot hit something, your body will be off-balance causing you to fall or trip.
Well, it's a matter of common sense to always have your eyes on path and watch where you are going.
Remember the old adages - "
Prevention is better than cure",
"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure",
"Look before you leap", etc.?
But that's not the only problem.
Here are the other two major reasons why you stumble while walking.
1. Your forward-moving foot is pointed down.
If your foot is pointed down while making a step, then you are more prone to falling.
To avoid this, your forefoot or toes should be flexed upwards as shown on the image below.

Flex Your Toes Upward while Walking

2. You walk like a pendulum.
The height of your step can greatly increase your risk of falling.
To prevent this, your forward-moving foot must be higher off the ground (at least 5 cm) while the knee is raised high as shown on the image below.

Proper Height of Foot When Making a Step

Actually, all the mechanoreceptors located throughout your body as well as the soles of your feet are sending information to the brain that include muscle contractions and joint angles.
When this information is not transmitted well to your brain, which happens as you get older, then the movement will get weak or ineffective making it hard for you to maintain your foot higher off the ground.
## How to Prevent Yourself from a Fall, Trip, or Slip
1. Keep Your House Clean
There are a lot of things in your house that can contribute to clutters that can cause you to trip or fall.
Always make sure to put away or store properly all personal belongings and other unnecessary things even if it is only a newspaper, remote control, and laundries scattered on the floor or carpet.
2. Stretch Your Feet and Ankles

Feet Exercise

Toe Exercise

You might think that your feet do not need exercise or stretching compared to other parts of your body, but in reality, feet stretching exercise can really help your feet maintain balance.
3. Keep Your House Warm and Ensure Adequate Lighting
Cold muscles and pressure sensors work less well and are less responsive to signals.
A decreased temperature will also cause your muscles to have less strength and less flexible, which can lead to accidents.
Always try to keep your house warm or wear proper clothes and footwear, especially during winter.
Since most falls occur indoors, make sure your house has adequate lighting.
