In 2017 alone, 3,597 people were killed due to accidents caused by potholes.
As a possible solution to this problem, three students from The Crossword School in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, have developed Pothole Warrior, an electronic device which instantly fixes potholes.
The device contains a portable wheelbarrow, with the requisite tar mixture in it. It is powered by an electronic circuit that is fitted under the wheelbarrow and contains ultrasound sensors, Arduino micro-controller and servo motor.
The sensor works out the dimensions of the pothole, & the micro-controller gauges the amount of tar mixture that is required, functioning at the behest of the servo motor. Once the wheelbarrow releases the tar mixture, a pedal-driven roller drum applies the tar into the pothole.
The Pothole Warrior design won the first runners-up prize at the Young Innovators Program held at IIT-Kharagpur in October 2018.
