Hari and his wife Asha, is an eco-friendly paradise The Green Home Which Remains Cool Even In Scorching Summers without Fan. :- Built over six years, the residence of Chakkarakkal Uchulikkunnil Hari and his wife Asha, is an eco-friendly paradise. It is called Nanavu, Malayalam for "moist". From solar panels and an earthern cool aisle created by the couple, the house has all modern amenities - except a fan.
The entire house, spread over 960 square feet, is made of mud balls and has a bedroom, sit out, hall, kitchen and a study. While there is no fan in the bedroom or the hall, solar panels provide processed sunlight through the year. It cost the couple a total of Rs 4 lakhs to set up this green home.
The cool aisle helps keep the temperatures in control even when it is very hot outside and an earthen refridgerator uses some water to keep the vegetable produce cool and fresh for a week. They grow the vegetables they like in their gardens and eat fresh and healthy food everyday.
The biogas plant is connected to their washroom and all cooking is done on the fuel generated by them. The couple abstains completely from the use of pesticides and believe that pests are the offshoot of an unwell soil. The entire space of 34 acres, that the couple owns and has built their home in, teems with birds and life forms that find a truly natural and healthy home.
Apart from their country cow, the couple also has more than 15 frogs, 80 birds and 150 butterflies to keep them company.
The lush garden and fields lend a lovely scent in the air which arrives to cool the house designed to highlight every breeze. This is a private home and only the couple's guests can stay.
