When legendary qawwal Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was asked what it takes to be a great qawwali singer, he said, "To be a qawwal, one must be willing to release one's mind and soul from one's body to achieve ecstasy through music. Qawwali is enlightenment itself." Qawwali is truly enlightening. The lines and verses which come out from the qawwal's soul directly reach yours and stir your mind and soul.
The tradition dates back more than 700 years ago, where qawwalis were performed at Sufi shrines and dargahs. The meaningful lyrics and the calming music will give you a message taht promises to stay with you forever. Take a look.
