[www.keralites.net] LIBERATION

LIBERATION

One day, Naradji was going to Bhagwan's abode. He saw the tapasvi and came over to meet him. Seeing Naradji, the tapasvi immediately bowed down to him. Naradji asked what he was doing and the tapasvi narrated his decision to win Bhagwan's favour. He said, "Naradji, I've been performing austerities for many years, eating only the leaves of this ambli tree so that Bhagwan would give me l iberation. When you go to meet Bhagwan, please ask him on my behalf to grant me liberation ." Hearing his story, Naradji decided that he would definitely relay this message.

Upon his arrival, Bhagwan requested Naradji, "Please tell me any news from Earth."

Remembering the tapasvi that he had met, Naradji replied, "A tapasvi is performing austerities under an ambli tree for you to grace him with liberation When will you grant it to him?"

Bhagwan replied, "Tell him that for liberation he will still have to perform austerities for just one hundred more years! "
Hearing this, the tapasvi started crying bitterly and said, "Oh Lord! I had been performing the austerities for thousands of years and still you say a hundred more years? "

Narada felt sorry for him and moved ahead.
On his way he meets another man who looked very ordinary and not much learned. Probably he was a farmer. When he saw Narada, asked, "Oh! Are you Narada? Can you please convey my one question to Lord Vishnu? "
Narada said, "Of course dear! Why not? What is your question? "
He said, "Please ask him when shall I get liberation? "
Narada when visited Vishnu, he told about the ordinary man. Lord Vishnu said, "Tell him that he will get liberation after the number of years, that the pippal tree has the leaves".

Narada reaches the ordinary man and told about what Lord Vishnu said for him.

Hearing this, the man started jumping and dancing with joy and laughter.
And he said, "Ahha! Ahha! Lord has said that I will get the liberation!Woww ...if He has said then I will! Sure I will!
And at once there was a huge spark of light appeared Infront of him. He was Lord Vishnu -smiling. He said, "Son! You have already got it!! "
Narada was perplexed. He asked afterwards. When the tapasvi who was performing austerities for thousands of years asked you for liberation you replied he will still have to wait a hundred more years and this ordinary man who never performed any austerities you gave him liberation. Why so impartial?
Lord Vishnu smiled and said
"Because the ordinary man had Full Faith and was happy with himself too but the tapasvi was clinged with his own grace of austerities. Even the longing for liberation is a bondage in itself"

Desire themselves are bondage. Redemption from them itself is a salvation. A man free from desire is close to divinity. Just as a fruit yielding plantain tree is destroyed in similar manner, the desire for fruits of action destroys a man.
