I can narrate another history. During 60s and 70s the Bombay city was virtually ruled by Goondas and Dadas and they have held the people of Bombay under terror. Every local area had its own goonda or dada as protector. Without these goondas help nothing can be done there in Bombay. They have been carrying out all sorts of illegal activities there more over they encourage other people also to carry on the illegal activities on payment. The tragedy was that the politicians were also controlled by this goons or UNDERWORLD. Even in the period of Indira Gandhi's emergency, nothing could be done. There was a strong rumour that one of the central ministers, a Gujarathi MP from Bombay was controlling these underworld from Delhi and this under world gets all sorts of help from the central government. There were thousands of joints where you get everything from illicit liquor to prostitutes. During the early periods of 80s (precisely during the return of Indira Gandhi) an young Minister of 25 years of age, by name Srikant Jhijhkar took over the reigns of Home Ministry in the Maharashtra Government. He brought a young Police Officer, Mr. Robert Rebeiro, from the rurals (who never worked in the city) and posted him as Commissioner of Police in Bombay. This team worked well and created history in the city of Bombay. Every Sunday this minister and Commissioner of Police jointly conducted raids in all illicit liquor joints and brothels and booked every body. All these raids were personally led by these two people. I do not think today any Minister or any Police Officer has the guts and tenacity to lead a team do such raids. One day this Commissioner of Police even appeared in the TV to personally appeal the people of the city to abstain from any sort of illegal activities in the city including gambling. During the appeal he said one thing which struck every Bombay citizen's heart. He said if any body brews a bottle or 2 of illicit liquor for the sake keeping his wife and children from starvation I can understand but if he ventures to brew thousands of bottles of liquor and with its money create law & order situation in the city sorry I will NOT tolerate. It was really a sensible warning. During his period hundreds of underworld gangsters were dead on police encounters. Credit should be given to the police force not a single police man lost his life in these encounters. If you check the records you will come to know how many counters took place during that period. Every body knew that there was NOT even a single encounter took place. It was nothing but point blank shooting. It created really a terror among the minds of these underworld, Some of them even fled the city. But to keep the city clean from such law & order type of activities the police officer has to take such hard decisions. Any way within a year they saved and cleaned the city from the clutches of these underworld goondas but the tragedy was that this officer was transferred to Delhi as Director of BSF within a years time. Later on this officer became the advisor to Punjab Governor. Even after retirement the under world was hunting for his blood, so many attempts were made but failed. Later on I think he has migrated to Australia as it is NOT safe for him to live in India.

Varghese was a killer, and he would have killed more if he was not caught at that time. I, like the crores of people of India have the right to live peacefully, and that if the State has to kill a few persons who resort to terrorist acts and kill innocents, to save our lives, I and all right thinking people of the state would support the StateT. Only a judge can order of killing a person in India. Even the president of India doesn't have the power to order to kill a citizen of this country. It won't be new information to you. So I do not understand why you are supporting this butchery? The good and evil of a person is quite subjective to people's view towards purpose of life and values. Rajan Varyar was also brutally killed by the police. Neither Rajan nor Varghese were any Govindachamy, if you know the history of this state and the reasons behind the killing of these people.

Persons who remember the Naxalite attacks and killing of innocents in the late sixties would admit that persons like Varghese were a social menace and if he was not killed at that time he would have killed more innocent people. These relations of Varghese who cry for the blood of Mr. Laxmana, should think about the relatives of the persons Varghese killed. Varghese was killed for killing innocent people, but what the innocent people did to be killed.. If he was tried under the law, he would have spent a few years in Jail, boarding and lodging provided free by the State and would have come out to become a celebrity as Philip M Prasad and Ajita, the accomplices of Varghese in the killing are now. The butcher of Soumya, Govindchamy is now on a diet of Chicken Biriyani on State expense in the jail and will come out after a few years and he too will become a celebrity.So, Mr. Laxmana did the right thing to save the lives of innocent people and I SALUTE HIMT.
