[www.keralites.net] ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE

Gratitude is a form of self-expression that must be shared. We cannot have an attitude of gratitude without having an object of that gratitude. To speak gratitude is courteous and pleasant,to enact gratitude is generous and noble, but to live gratitude is to touch Heaven.Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all the others.

Gratitude is the energy of faith. If someone has been kind, thank him or her for that.Make showing and sharing your gratitude a part of your life. If someone does something nice for you, share your happiness with that person. When we show our gratitude, it's a way of sharing our joy with that person. Even when we do something as simple as burning a candle to show gratitude to God, it shares our joy with everyone who sees the flame of the candle. It strengthens their faith and reminds them to show their gratitude, too.

Let me add a story of gratitude from Mahabharata:

Once up on a time the Pandavas were in exile. During this time, they lived in a town called Ekchakra, with a Brahmin family.

One day, while Kunti was resting at noon, she heard wailings inside the Brahmin's house where they were staying. Considering it to be a part of their duty to stand beside their host at the time of adversity, Kunti went to inquire of their misery.

The Brahmin said, "There lives a demon outside Ekchakra who once threatened to kill all the people of the town. To protect ourselves we made an agreement with him. Every week one person should take a cartload of food to him. The demon eats the food as well as the person. All take turns to send one member every week. This week it is the turn of our family. I have to send someone to the demon." Kunti was very sorry to hear the plight of the poor Brahmin who had given them shelter. She thought that its the time to show their gratitude towards the Brahmin family.

Kunti said, "I have five sons; I will send Bhima to the demon. He is strong and will deal with him." Bhima took the food to the demon but started eating it himself. Seeing this, the ferocious demon attacked but the strong Bhima killed the demon with his bare hands. The villagers could not believe that the demon had been killed.

For the help rendered by the Brahmin family kunti showed gratitude towards the Brahmin family in this manner. The pandavas saved village and the people from the dangerous demon.

Demonstrate gratitude in your actions every day through compassion, and tolerance. Gratitude strengthens and supports our relationships with God and with other people. Make a commitment to show your gratitude by sharing it with others whenever you have the opportunity.

We can show our gratitude for life in even our smallest actions. Find a way to demonstrate your gratitude to the universe. Feed thebirds! Action gives life to ideas. When we start to look for ways to show our gratitude, we will find more and more to be grateful for.

Make it a habit to tell people thank you. To express your appreciation, sincerely and without the expectation of anything in return. Truly appreciate those around you, and youll soon find many others around you. Truly appreciate life, and youll find that you have more of it.

Last but not least As we express ourgratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.
