മദര്‍ തെരേസയുടെ ജീവിതത്തിലെ ഒരു സംഭവം വായിച്ചതോര്‍ക്കുന്നു. മദര്‍ അനാഥര്‍ക്കുവേണ്ടി മറ്റുള്ളവരുടെ മുമ്പില്‍ കൈനീട്ടി നടക്കുന്ന കാലം. അങ്ങനെ വലിയൊരു ധനവാന്റെ മുമ്പില്‍ മദര്‍ കൈനീട്ടുന്നു. ആ മനുഷ്യന്‍ മദറിന്റെ നീട്ടിയ കൈ ക്കുമ്പിളിലേക്ക്‌ കാര്‍ക്കിച്ചുതുപ്പി. നമുക്കാണ്‌ ഈ അനുഭവം ഉണ്ടാകുന്നതെങ്കില്‍ അരങ്ങേറുന്ന അറപ്പും വെറുപ്പും ശകാരവും ശാപവാക്കുകളും ഒന്നാലോചിച്ചു നോക്കിയേ... എന്നാല്‍, മദര്‍ സന്തോഷത്തോടെ `ഇത്‌ എനിക്ക്‌' എന്നു പറഞ്ഞ്‌ കൈവലിച്ച്‌ മറുകൈ നീട്ടി `ഇനി എന്റെ കുട്ടികള്‍ക്കുള്ളത്‌ എന്തെങ്കിലും തരൂ' എന്നു പറയുകയാണ്‌ ചെയ്‌തത്‌. എളിയവര്‍ക്കുവേണ്ടി മദര്‍ തെരേസ ചെറുതായെങ്കില്‍ ദൈവം മദറിനെ ഉയര്‍ത്തി. ഇങ്ങനെ എത്രയെത്ര `ചെറിയ മനുഷ്യര്‍!'
