Jamun is seasonal fruit native to India, Pakistan, and Indonesia that can be found mainly during the rainy season. It has a sweet and sour flavor, but leaves a bitter aftertaste and dyes the mouth a violet color, which is why many people do not like to eat jamun. However, if you can get passed this, the fruit has many health benefits.
  1. Jamun pulp contains 82% water and 14.5% carbohydrates. Glucose and fructose are major sugar components. It also provides protein, vitamin A, B, and C, malic acid, augjelic acid, and tannin. The seed is also rich in protein and carbohydrates.
  2. Jamun is known as a great appetizer due to its cooling nature. If eaten with rock salt, it can cure certain kidney problems.
  3. To cure a sore throat, make a powder of jamun seeds and eat it with honey. Within two days it will begin to have a noticeable effect.
  4. For diabetes patients, jamun is extraordinarily beneficial. It contains no sucrose, and thus it is one of the only fruits that provide zero calories. It helps to control blood sugar levels as it contains jambolin, which prevents the transformation of starch from our food into sugar.
  5. People who have bad diabetes should have 200 grams of jamun everyday to keep their glucose levels under control. However, being a seasonal fruit, jamun is not available throughout the year, though its seeds and bark are equally beneficial.
  6. To treat diabetes, take 500 grams of jamun seeds, 50 gram of soonth (dried ginger), and 50 grams of gurmar. Mix them all together and make small tablets out of the solution. Have two tablets everyday to keep diabetes away.
  7. Alternatively, take 60 grams of jamun leaves and make a paste by mixing them with water. Ingest this solution daily for 10 days, then after two months repeat the 10-day cycle. Follow this until you get the results you are looking for.
  8. If you have recently been diagnosed with diabetes, eat four jamun leaves every morning and evening. Within a month, your blood sugar levels will have returned to normal
  9. Jamun has other benefits as well. Tree bark is used to treat piles, heavy mensuration, and white discharge in women. To treat piles, make a paste of green tree bark and have 1 tablespoon of this solution twice daily for 20 days. To treat white discharge, make a powder of jamun tree bark and ingest 1 tablespoon with milk.
  10. Jamun tree bark can be powdered and mixed with toothpaste to help treat bleeding gums or infections. If you have mouth ulcers, then boil some jamun leaves in water and gargle.
