[www.keralites.net] Re: [TheBecoming] ARE HINDUS PRIDE LESS ?

1st Jan is not a public holiday in most states including Kerala. Christmas is probably a left over from the days of the Raj.
I may also point out that I had not even heard of Deepavali until I left for school in TN where Deepavali is a very important festival. I had not heard of Holi until I left for Bombay in my mid-twenties. Now both Deepavali and Holi are prescribed govt holidays in Kerala though not important to the Kerala Hindus.
Miladi Sherif was not celebrated as a holiday 40 years ago. It is not a holiday in the Muuslim Gulf states even to this day. Now it is govt holiday in Kerala. What is more Muslim holidays are determined by the appearance of the moon. As a result almost every year there is a confusion and the govt often gives two days of holidays.
Similarly Good Friday is only a restricted holiday in the US whereas in India it is an full fledged holiday.
According to me apart from weekends only national events such as Independence day should be celebrated as national holiday. All the other holidays should be given as optional.

New Year's Day ( January,1,2020) was celebrated all over the world with prayers and pleasure events. Almost all Hindus celebrated the occasion. In several temples, it is reported that midnight puja was conducted on the stroke of midnight when new year commenced. Many Hindus participated and prayed during the puja.

1st January is essentially a new year as per the Christian era.
In India, every religion celebrate New Year's day like Tamil New Year day, Telugu New Year day etc. These New Year day is celebrated only by Hindus and not by Christians or Muslims.

Then, why Hindus celebrate 1st January? Are Hindus pride less?

This is not a communal thought but one born out of curiosity.
