Jhal Muri/ Moshla Muri (Bengali Style Hot & Sour Rice Flakes Mixture)
Jhal muri is a very common street-food ( snacks) in Kolkata (actually not only kolkata but West Bengal)...it is a essential and unavoidable thing if you are travelling by a local train...rather I would say, it's a speciality of local trains in Kolkata.. :) ...though any body can make it at home very easily, still the flavor is missing..as that is not possible without the jerking of local trains...aggressive debates...."bhaar er cha" and the "Jhal muri" of some special hawker..But it is a very easy and nice afternoon snack even without that ambiance..:)
Ingredients:
Muri/rice flakes (2 cups)
1 piece hard boiled potato ( chopped)
1 small cucumber and one medium onion (chopped)
one small tomato (remove the seeds) and 2 green chili (chopped)
chopped cilantro
half of a fresh lime
2 slice coconut (I could not manage it..)
half cup chanachur /sev (use chanachur if available)
roasted peanuts 1/4 cup
chickpeas (over night soaked) 1/4 cup
oil from any pickle/ mustard oil
aamchur powder/dried mango powder 1/2 teaspoon
cumin seeds and dried red chili (roasted and powdered) 1/2 teaspoon
black salt /salt as per taste
Process:
Take a large mixing bowl and mix all the ingredients together and serve immediately with a cup of tea.
