Bangalore based doctor Dr Sunil Kumar ensures healthcare reaches city's slum dwellers :- Dr Sunil Kumar started his NGO Matrusiri Grameena Abhivruddi Yuva Samsathe in Sarjapur. He has been providing free healthcare to those living in Bangalore's slums for seven years now. NGO run by volunteers
The NGO has 370 voluntary doctors along with 1,200 other volunteers who are nurses and lab technicians. Kumar added, "They are part of our NGO who take time out of their schedule and serve the people."

Most of the patients that Kumar sees on a regular basis are not just in the dark about their health conditions but are also unable to afford the medicines. There is a separate team that explains to patients the basic sanitation and health precautions that they must take.

"Our volunteer goes around the city and identifies the area that needs more medical attention following which we arrange a camp there. The money I earn from my agricultural land in my native place is my main source of income. I use this money to organise the health camps. Me and my volunteers gain satisfaction from this initiative," he said.

Way of giving back to society'
Dr N Pradeep Kumar, 37, a dentist who volunteers with the organisation, said, "I have been a part of this initiative for the past two years. I volunteers during the weekends. We have taken something from the society and this is our way of giving something back. If every doctor follows it, our society will become a better place to live in."

Another volunteer YD Nagarajan, 28 shares similar views. He said, "I have been a part of this initiative for the past seven years. We provide basic health care along with carrying out awareness about health."
