Now Book Bedrolls Online Before Train Travel
For the convenience of long distance passengers , the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has decided to introduce e-bedroll facility that allows passengers to order bedrolls online and from over the counter food plazas or fast food units set up by it.
Initially, the facility will be introduced on a trial basis at four stations viz New Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) in Mumbai and Mumbai Central.
Passengers can avail this facility by paying Rs 140 for two bed sheets and a pillow Rs 110 for a blanket. These can be purchased together at a cost of Rs 250 or can be purchased separately.
IRCTC Chairman and Managing Director A K Manocha said a major feature of the scheme is that the bedroll is a takeaway facility and passengers can take it home.
"Under the existing arrangement, bedrolls are provided only in AC classes in trains, now there is arrangement for sleeper class passenger to get a take away bedroll kit at highly concessional price. Moreover if a passenger of A/C class also likes to buy a fresh bedroll he may opt for this service. This bedroll kit can be booked on e ticketing site of IRCTC. Passenger can also purchase them from the IRCTC's vending units at the station," he said.
Manocha said the facility is being introduced on the basis of a survey conducted among rail passengers. "We will expand this facility at more stations after evaluating its success," he informed.
IRCTC has been taking measures to improve passenger amenities and has also introduced e-catering facility that has significantly expanded the catering choices of travelling passengers. The e-bedroll facility will further upscale and supplement facilities for them.
