Mumbai trust gets the axe for sex shame
Image courtesy: Mail TodayA YEAR after the gruesome case of rampant sexual abuse of kids at a childrens home on the outskirts of Mumbai became public and its administrator and caretaker arrested, the authorities have finally suspended the trust and appointed an administrator to manage the functioning of the trust.
The shelter home at Karjat in Maharashtras Raigad district was managed by Chandraprabha Charitable Trust founded by Ajith Dhabholkar, who is the prime accused in the sexual abuse case.The children at the home were subjected to rampant sexual abuse, including forcing children to watch pornographic content and imitate the acts.
Dhabolkar not only had sex with adolescent girls, he made all the children take part in a 'ritual where they worshipped his manhood'.The lone caretaker, Lalita Londe, who has turned approver in the case, would also allegedly have sex with adolescent boys of the shelter home.
Following the expose, Charity commissioner office of Pune initiated a probe into the administration of the trust. The probe was undertaken by Assistant Charity Commissioner Navnath Jagtap, who recently submitted his findings.The probe revealed that the trust had started the shelter home in Karjat, which was outside the jurisdiction of Pune district but was registered there.
It was also found that Dhabolkar never called a meeting of the trustees. Holding regular meetings is mandatory as per the Public Trusts Act. It was also incumbent on the trust to submit an annual report of its activities accompanied by its audited accounts but the probe found that no such report had been submitted. www.keralites.net          |
