In what could be the most disturbing case the New Jersey Supreme Court has ever seen, a 47-year old man is attempting to marry his own 16-year old daughter in the hope he can avoid jail time after accusations of incest by local authorities.
The man who openly admits to having a "loving relationship" with his own daughter hopes to avoid prosecution by legally marrying her as New Jersey state law does not prohibit incestuous marriages if those involved are 18 or over.
The man plans to challenge the state law by marrying his own 16-year old daughter, as New Jersey couples may get married as young as 16 with parental consent, in an attempt to make their relationship legal.
His 16-year old daughter claims she loves her dad "more than anything in the world"
"If I was to marry the man of my dreams and spend the rest of my life with him, it would have to be my dad, the only man that has shown me the real meaning of love" she wrote earlier this week on her Facebook account, which alarmed family members and friends who later contacted local authorities.
"In New Jersey, there's no criminal penalty if those involved are 18 or over. Rhode Island, Ohio, and Illinois are other progressive states in this regard" admits his defense attorney, Jim Flinch. "Consensual incest is very common, it is just still very taboo. It will be up to the courts to decide" he told reporters.
The man who is now under arrest could face up to five years in prison if convicted.

Horsens | A 46-year old woman from Denmark has given birth to her own grandson after she fell pregnant to none other than her own son, reports the Copenhagen Observer this morning.
The mother of five who has been in a relationship with her oldest son for the past six years never believed she would give birth again at her age.
"Friedrich was my first born and has always been my favorite" she admits. "We have always had a special relationship" she told local reporters.
Experts claim the baby is fine and does not suffer from any congenital birth defects, but childcare services could possibly seize the baby since incestuous relations are illegal in Denmark and punishable by up to 6 years of imprisonment
"In my country sex with animals is protected by law but authorities are threatening to take my child away because I slept with my own son" she told local reporters. "Is there any justice in Denmark?" she added, visibly in distress.
Although incestuous relationships are a criminal offense in Denmark, experts acknowledge they have been tolerated by local authorities these last decades.
