Airbnb is a well known website that helps visitors find home stays and guest houses all over the world ranging from any budget. You can forget about luxury hotels or dingy hostels when you have the safety and comfort of staying at the home of the local host. 
We scouted through the website to look for some amazing home stays all over India that offer an experience you will never forget.  

1. Rosie's Lakeside Retreat Homestay, Udaipur, Rajasthan

Overlooking Lake Pichola, this duplex apartment comes with all the modern luxuries required by the 21st century tourist would require. The veranda is comfortably designed where the soothing breeze from the lake is perfect to end the evening in contemplation.
A two minute walk away is the City palace which is home to the Maharaja's family and the 15th century Jagdish temple with its intricate stone work. 
Right at the buildings doorstep is the boat stand where you can cruise on the waters of the lake into the idyllic sunset.

7. Lake View Hut, Hauz Khas, New Delhi

Ok, it looks like I have gone overboard with listings from the capital but I promise this is the last. I just couldn't resist after looking at the fantastic decor and that stranded island feel it gives. 
The lake view hut overlooks the Hauz Khas lake. Centrally located, it's an ideal place for travellers to unwind and relax. Two more rooms are available on the same floor if needed.

8. Gandhar Eco Lodge, Alibaugh, Maharashtra

Set amidst the clusters of traditional village homes, Gandhar promises the visitor a time for spiritual rehabilitation and rejuvenation. It is located in the quiet village Thal and is an hours catamaran ride from the Gateway of India in Mumbai to Mandwa jetty.
The owner is passionate about promoting rural tourism in India and feels that eco tourism is the best way for sustainable growth and development in village communities.

9. Sea Hut Home Stay, Kochi, Kerala

This small guest house is reminiscent of the colonial days as it blends South Indian architecture with European cottage culture. Just a few minutes away from the seaside, you can relax on a hammock or simply lose yourself in the breeze on the ground floor veranda.
Watch the sun set as you take a walk on the beach, and if you're lucky, you might just spot a dolphin!

10. Villa Woodrose, Manali

Located in Dhomsu Village which 10 km away from Manali, the villa is set amidst an apple and pear orchard. The large property provides plenty of scenic views of the Himalayas and gives one the feeling of staying at a skiing lodge.
There are several trekking trails and beautiful temples within walking distance. Picnic spots abound with meadows, streams and waterfalls.

11. Tranquility in the Himalayas, Shimla

Originally built as the holiday home of the owner. This guest house has three bedrooms and has a wonderful view of the mountains. Guests who have stayed before have praised the cook's meat curry, so if you're heading to the mountains you know what you'd like for dinner. 
The house is located on the Chail-Kufri road at a place called Shilon Bagh. It takes 8 hours from Delhi and 3 hours from Kalka if you plan on taking the Kalka-Shatabdi Express.

12. Portuguese House, Parra, Goa

This house has been restored to it's former glory blending colonial and traditional Konkan styles. Each room is tastefully done up and includes amenities like outdoor baths, yoga and massages.
The beach is 3 km away and it can get quite pricey during the peak season. Reccomended for those who want to disconnect from a hectic life and just need some time to recuperate.
