കൊച്ചിയിലെ ചുംബന സമരത്തിന് പിന്തുണയര്‍പ്പിച്ച് ഡല്‍ഹിയില്‍ നടന്ന ചുംബനസമരവും സംഭവബഹുലമായി. ജവാഹര്‍ലാല്‍ നെഹ്രു സര്‍വകലാശാലയിലെ വിദ്യാര്‍ഥികളുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലാണ് ശനിയാഴ്ച വൈകിട്ട് നാല് മണിയോടെ ചുംബനപ്രതിഷേധം ആരംഭിച്ചത്. എന്നാല്‍, ഇതിനെതിരെ ഹിന്ദു സേനാ പ്രവര്‍ത്തകര്‍ എത്തിയതോടെ പോലീസിന് ഇടപെടേണ്ടിവന്നു.
ഝണ്ഡേവാലയിലെ ആര്‍.എസ്.എസ്. കാര്യാലയത്തിലേക്ക് മാര്‍ച്ച് നടത്തി പ്രതിഷേധിക്കാനായിരുന്നു സമരക്കാരുടെ പദ്ധതി. എന്നാല്‍, ഇവരെ പരിസരത്തുള്ള മെട്രോ സ്‌റ്റേഷനില്‍ നിന്ന് പുറത്തിറങ്ങാന്‍ തന്നെ പോലീസ് അനുവദിച്ചില്ല. ഇതോടെ വിദ്യാര്‍ഥികള്‍ മെട്രോ സ്‌റ്റേഷന്‍ പരിസരത്തു തന്നെ ഇരുന്ന് പ്രതിഷേധിച്ചു. പരസ്പരം ചുംബിച്ചും മുദ്രാവാക്യം വിളിച്ചുമാണ് പ്രതിഷേധിച്ചത്. അപ്പോഴേക്കും സ്ഥലത്തെത്തിയ ഹിന്ദു സേനാ പ്രവര്‍ത്തകരെ പോലീസ് തടയുകയും പിരിച്ചുവിടുകയും ചെയ്തു.
എന്നാല്‍, പിന്നീട് വിദ്യാര്‍ഥികള്‍ റോഡിലിറങ്ങിയശേഷം ആര്‍.എസ്.എസ്. കാര്യാലയത്തിന് നേരെ നടന്നുനീങ്ങി. ഇവര്‍ക്കെതിരെ മുദ്രാവാക്യങ്ങളുമായി ഹിന്ദുസേനാ പ്രവര്‍ത്തകര്‍ വീണ്ടും രംഗത്തെത്തിയതോടെ സംഘര്‍ഷാവസ്ഥയിലായി. ഇരുവിഭാഗങ്ങളും തമ്മില്‍ ഏറ്റുമുട്ടലുണ്ടാകുന്ന അവസ്ഥയായപ്പോള്‍ പോലീസ് ഇടപെട്ടു. തുടര്‍ന്ന് ഇരുവിഭാഗങ്ങളെയും പോലീസ് പിരിച്ചുവിട്ടു.
ഡല്‍ഹി സര്‍വകലാശാലയിലേതുള്‍പ്പെടെ വിവിധ കോളജുകളില്‍ നിന്നുള്ള വിദ്യാര്‍ഥികളും യുവാക്കളും സമരത്തില്‍ പങ്കുചേര്‍ന്നു.
